Chapter 8

The ride to the hospital was hellish for Rusty, and Scott, more for Scott however as he was watching his friend be hooked up to different tubes to assist his breathing. Scott didn't understand why they were doing that to him he was breathing just fine a couple minutes ago, he then realized something, it was the air, Rusty had been poisoned! He hadn't just received a blow to the head, he was flipping poisoned he could die at any moment! He had to get him back to the guild! But how? So here they were his friend hooked up to all this random crap that Scott knew would never work, he then took Rusty's headset from the pile of things he had brought up from their stuff, he then turned it on and called out to the others."Christopher?He asked into the headset."Yes?"Christopher, the leader's voice stated as it came through the headset,"What is it Rusty?""It's not Rusty, it's Scott,"Scott explained."Scott!"Christopher exclaimed,"What on earth are you doing with Rusty's headset.""Rusty's dying, he was poisoned, by the Loffmors,"Scott explained to the leader, he was getting really odd looks from the paramedics, but they dismissed it and went along trying to find a way to help Rusty heal."No way, where is he?"Christopher asked."We're in an ambulance on our way to the hospital,"Scott slowly mumbled knowing that Christopher would not be pleased by what he had done, it was the only golden rule for the guild, No matter what, no getting help, no exceptions."Hospital?!"Christopher exclaimed,"You're breaking the rules! Come back to the guild at once!"
"I can't the paramedics are insisting on keeping him here they won't let him go no matter what,"Scott desperately tried to respond."I'll come and break you two out,"Christopher said with a sigh, normally he was supposed to instantly kick both Rusty and Scott out of the guild, but as it seemed there was no other option, and they hadn't had a choice."Alright see you soon,"Scott stated as he took of the headset after hanging up. At last they reached the hospital. Rusty was instantly rushed to the emergency room. Scott tried to follow but a nurse in pink scrubs with little lions all over them got in his way, she was an ugly lady and looked like an over grown two year old with the pigtails in her hands."Sir, you can't go back there she stated, there isn't any room, besides you need to fill out all of this paper work,"The nurse, who's name was Kimberly then thrusted paperwork at Scott. Scott let out a sigh and then went to the waiting room where he was shortly reunited with his children, but they were then taken down to the cafeteria so they could get a nice meal, something they hadn't had within 24 hours. After an hour or so Scott finished the paperwork and was now flipping through a magazine. He then was given a bottle of water by one of the police officers when his children returned, he then thanked them for the water, and curled up in one of the uncomfortable plastic chairs and fell asleep as his children leaned on him as well. He didn't awake till he heard someone calling his name."Scott, is that you?"He heard as Rusty's sister Risa shook him."Yeah, are you Risa?"Scott asked as he looked at the tall woman, she looked a lot like Rusty, both were the exact same height and had the exact same hair, the only differences, was how Risa was a bit more chunky then her brother, and their faces were of course much different."Yeah, where's Rusty I brought Betty and Ricky with me hoping to trade them off to him,"Risa stated, she obviously had not learned of his severe injury, or at the most she must've known very little about the injury her brother had sustained."Uh don't you know, he has a severe head injury, he's sedated and on oxygen right now,"Scott stated as he put his magazine, that he had fallen asleep with in his lap, down, it had already been two hours and he was yet to know anything concerning Rusty's condition. Risa put her hand to her mouth in shock. How could something like this have happened to her little brother! The brother she practically raised! She had already lost her other brother to mental illness, she couldn't lose another, she just couldn't!"What no way! How could this have happened! Where is he? I need to see him, NOW!"Risa demanded as she curled her hand into a fist nearly crushing her small nephews hand that she had forgotten she held in her own."Aunt Risa?"Ricky asked he had never seen his aunt in so much stress before, he had never seen anyone in so much stress, ever!"Shh, go play with those blocks over there,"Risa instructed as she put her niece down, Becky then ran after her big brother, as she always did, she reminded Scott a lot of his little boy Samuel, they'd be good friends he thought to himself."They won't let us see him right now, he's in the emergency room,"Scott explained. Risa wondered how he could be this calm when Rusty had been and was in the emergency room. For two hours!"I don't care I need to see him!"Risa declared. As she made her declaration the same nurse from before, Kimberly, entered the waiting room."Family of Rusty Blanchet?"She stated. Risa leapt off of the chair she had sat on."That's me,"She said oddly calm compared to how she was just a few moments ago."We have some good news and bad news,"Kimberly stated."Okay, go on,"Risa anxiously stated using a hand motion to say go on as well, Risa was, and has always been very fond of using hand motions."The good news is, he hopefully will live as we've gotten his body to do all of the necessary functions, the bad news is, he is carrying some disease,"Kimberly stated."Is the disease, you know, um fatal?"Risa asked, knowing that it probably was, most human diseases was normally fatal to all witches and warlocks, and as we know Rusty was in fact a warlock."It can be with his injury,"Kimberly stated."IT"S NOT A DISEASE!"Scott shouted,"HE WAS POISONED!""Excuse me?"Kimberly asked in a snotty kind of tone."He was poisoned,"Scott stated."And how do you propose he was poisoned?"She asked still speaking in a very snotty tone, one that you would expect to hear coming from the head cheerleader in high school."The Loffmors, they're out to get him,"Scott tried to explain, knowing it wouldn't make any sense,"The poison, there is no cure.""Okay then weirdo, if what you say is true, the best thing we can suggest is to keep him here or maybe send him to a research center to try and figure out what exactly is wrong and what we can do to try and find a cure,"Kimberly stated."Okay, can we see him now,"Risa asked once more hoping the answer would be yes."Yes you can, I believe he is awake as of right now,"Kimberly explained, she then took them back to see him. When they entered the room Rusty stared straight at his sister, Scott had stayed in the waiting room to watch his own and Rusty's children."You're awake,"Risa stated, being captain obvious."No, I'm still asleep!"Rusty joked being the smart Alec he was."I see your sense of humor was not harmed even the slightest, I sure hoped it was,"Risa stated as she sat on the edge of his bed and took his hand in hers, checking twice to make sure that it wasn't the one with the IV in it giving him his pain medicine."You admit it, you'd miss it,"Rusty said, he then broke into a coughing fit, one of the side effects of the poison."Sure I would,"Risa stated as she ruffled his hair, Rusty continued to cough, his sister then stopped making comments on her brother and patted his back as she helped him sit up. Soon his coughing fit ended. "Better?"She asked."Yeah, where's Becky and Ricky?"He asked, almost instantly after she had asked him if he was okay, completely changing the subject."They're in the waiting room with Scott,"His sister explained,"Hey want me to get you anything from the cafeteria?" She then stood up from his bed and stretched."The doctor said they'll bring me my food,"Rusty stated with disgust he knew that whatever the hospital people brought him would most likely be disgusting."Oh right,"Risa stated as she then lowered her body back onto his bed."What time is it?"Rusty asked sleepily."10 PM,"His sister explained as she looked at her cell phone, she also noticed how her husband Carlos had tried to call her six times but she hadn't even realized, as she was to busy fretting over her brother."Why haven't they brought me dinner yet?"Rusty asked he was already hungry."I don't know, they might be doing surgery on you tomorrow,"Risa guessed,"You ought to get your rest, I'll stay right here." She then brushed Rusty's hair out of his eyes and kidded him on the forehead. WIth that Rusty then fell asleep, they were all unaware that he would not wake up the next morning.
