Maya
The sun shone on my face as I rubbed my eyes trying to get through the day. The lecture was never-ending and I was trying to stay awake as much as possible. The lack of sleep from last night was not doing me any justice.
I tried to focus but my eyes were drooping slowly.
"Now, who will solve this problem?" The teacher looked around the class to call them up front to solve the math problem.
The kids ducked under their books and some of them pretended to sleep. Mrs. Maki shook her head. Her eyes landed on me as she nodded. Letting out a big breath I went in front of the class to solve the problem.
It was math from chapter 2 that I had done at least 14 times. My chalk was sounding on the keyboard but except for that silence, I heard giggling sounds behind me. Were they making fun of me? Their hideous laughter would only be heard when someone was getting severely beaten up in the middle of the classroom.
I tried not to get distracted and quickly finished my job. Putting the chalk aside I slightly bowed to Mrs. Maki as she smiled at me. Heading towards my seat I rubbed my face with my hands wanting to feel less tired.
But as soon as I went closer to my desk, my leg tripped on something and my face came in contact with the ground. The thud sound of me falling resonated in the entire classroom. The lower part of my face hit the leg of the chair.
Mrs. Maki gasped as the sound of laughter sounded again. Once again after Tanaka's death. The class never used to have any reason to laugh except for Tanaka. I gripped my face as I tried to get up but my other hand felt stuck. I looked down.
Yuri, the devil of the class and Tanaka's tormentor held down my hand with his feet. His smile was menacing. I struggled to rip it out of his feet but it only wounded my hands. I hissed. Blood dripped from my face. My other fist balled up. I will punch him out of this matter.
But before I could, Mrs. Maki came running for my rescue. "Oh my gosh, Ms. Maya are you okay?" Her concerned voice took me back to reality. Yuri left my hand. She helped me stand up and sit on my seat.
"Do you need to go to the nurse's office?" She asked.
I hated that place but I knew better. If I stayed here any longer I think it would be worse than just making a trip. I will be their next target. I don't have my pen near me. Sleepless nights will not help me resist any form of violence right now. Heck, I would not even be able to run.
I nodded to her as she held me and helped me out of the classroom. I didn't know I fell that hard to the point my school uniform was dripping with blood. The nurse's office was close to the classroom as we went inside. She had a big reaction to my state and started to treat my wounds.
After a painful hour of trying to explain to her by giving an excuse for how I felt, I was released to go home. I looked at the nurse. "I have a science competition I will be taking part in. I cannot go home."
She looked at me as if I was a maniac. "You almost dislocated your jaw. I barely stopped the bleeding. You can't possibly work now." She sighed. "Don't strain yourself. Go home."
"I can't," I argued. Indeed, I cannot go home now. I will not show these wounds to him.
She tightly closed her eyes, probably annoyed by me. "I already took permission from the head teacher. Go home, Maya."
I gritted my teeth and gave her a slight bow, I came out of the room. I sighed. I will go to the classroom and think. I prepared for this competition for months. My father has high hopes for me. Turns out, he told me a few days ago that his business partner was to be attending the competition. He wanted me to make an impression on him.
