One hell of a punishment

Calista's parents. He hired a private detective to find them the moment Serenity showed her face and left him restless as a result. He just hadn't been able to sleep well because of that sole face.

Once Calista's parents are found, he'll proceed to locate Calista through them. If it meant peeping into their personal life and monitoring their phone calls, he would do it. It was illegal but sometimes, money is above the law.

"Here is the logbook anyway." Serenity handed him the book, returning the conversation to its previous discourse.

He took it from her and opened its cover. "Yes. It's right about time to be serious." He glanced at his wristwatch. "I only have an hour and a half left before the meeting back in the office." He muttered that mostly to himself.

"The materials and equipment are ready, Mr. Donnelly. Tomorrow, we will begin with the practical work. The workers are only setting everything in place now so that we can commence construction instantly without distractions. We will meet your deadline, we assure you." Serenity returned to being formal again.

Shawn also decided to keep it that way. Not after how much he'd said to her. He never intended to mention anything about Calista to Serenity or anybody else. He had never done it in the past.

Regardless, it was so easy to slip and tell Serenity that much. There was just something about her that he wasn't able to lay his hands on.

"Four months. Four months is all you have before the launch. We are launching the new set of gadgets on the 24th of December. It'll be where our guests will celebrate their Christmas Eve. We want to have an executive yet contemporary showroom to complement our plans. I'm sure you know of all this before."

"I do, Mr. Donnelly. That's why we are adopting the mantra; the earlier, the better."

She always finds a way to make humor out of even the most serious things. He scoffed – in a good way at her statement.

"The earlier the better, it is." He repeated, standing up. "Want to give me a tour of the site?"

"Very well, sir."

They both stood and left the shade. Shawn slides his glasses back on without forgetting his mask too. It wasn't really necessary for him to come out here as he could have sent anyone but they heard the news that their rival company was out to get their master plan book.

The master plan book includes all of the corporation's future unreleased gadgets plans and could not be leaked out. During the last shareholder meeting, Shawn decided that he would firsthand handle things himself.

Too much was at risk and Justin, the CEO of the rival company was a pest – a shameless troublemaker!

Serenity gestured towards the structural layout, explaining, "This area here will house the main showroom. We're envisioning a sleek, modern design to showcase the innovative gadgets you have foreplanned. And over there," she pointed to another section, "will be the demonstration area, where guests can experience firsthand the functionality of the new products."

Shawn nodded, his attention whirling between Serenity's explanations and the site's layout. "Impressive planning. I trust everything will be executed flawlessly?"

"Absolutely, Mr. Donnelly. Our team is committed to meeting the deadline and ensuring we meet your desires," Serenity affirmed confidently.

'Ensuring we meet your desires'. That sounded like a double entendre. If only she knew what other desires he had. Maybe she'll simultaneously be meeting those desires as she meets this one too.

Words, sissy, words.

As they moved through the site, Shawn recognized the precision in the plans. Serenity was an intelligent woman, no doubt. He was beginning to respect her.

Unaware of what was going on in his mind, Serenity went about her explanations. "We've also implemented strict security measures," She continued, while Shawn glanced at the surroundings. "Access to sensitive areas should be restricted after we're done and all plans and prototypes should be kept under lock and key. We'll make that possible."

He never knew some women could be this extremely smart. He was initially sexually attracted to her but now, she seemed to demand more without asking for it.

Their tour continued for a while longer, with Serenity detailing the various sections and their intended purposes. As they reached the end of the tour, Shawn turned to her. "Thank you for the insightful tour, Serenity. Your dedication to this project is commendable." He winked again, not giving a fuck if she was going back to employing the professional tone.

He was going to keep it informal between them except they weren't alone. Right now, Gina was the only third party and Gina's prospects ended at poke-nosing. She was dead harmless.

"It's my pleasure, Mr. Donnelly." Serenity responded with a professional demeanor.

She just was too rigid a woman.

Shawn nodded, ignoring her formal tone. "Continue overseeing the progress. I'll be expecting regular updates."

"And I will be dropping by with them." She beamed and that marked the end of their meeting for the day.

Shawn returned to the car with Gina, and almost the whole of the construction workers greeted him as he passed by.

"Go full throttle, Landers." He instructed his driver before the man could even think about driving slowly.

It was barely twenty minutes left for the meeting. Talking to Serenity was more entertaining than he thought that he had forgotten himself in it.

Fortunately, they arrived at the office on time. While he was striding to his office with all of the employees, his phone rang. Shawn wondered who was it that had his private number.

Most calls first go through Gina.

The caller ID said it was the private detective. A rush of adrenaline surged through Shawn. Did the detective make progress already?

"Hello?" He picked up the call.

"Hello, Mr. Donnelly. It wasn't hard locating the targets. I found them." Said, Sunny – the private detective.

Shawn had no idea if he was supposed to be glad or fretting at the news. It meant he was one step closer to finding Calista. "Alright. Call me after a few hours. I'm heading for a meeting." He replied and then hung up instantaneously.

This was quite the news. His mind would be split into two during this meeting, he knew that for sure.

He walked over to the conference room regardless. He knew that had Gina had the liberty to, she would have asked him who called his private line but she bloody dared not.

Even the elevator's ping made his leap. Calista — she was one hell of a punishment.
