As Shawn stepped into his office at the company, a strange sense of calmness enveloped him. Everything appeared as it should—no signs of unexpected trouble or looming issues. His office was also intact.

Phew!

Surprisingly, this brought him an unexpected wave of relief. He hadn't realized how much the anticipation of facing more challenges had been weighing on him.

When Gina welcomed him with a smile, he merely waved at her and just walked in. Sunny’s words had also been taking effect on him. He was this cold and distant towards Landers too.

The thought that any of them could have been betraying him did not permit for him to be able to treat them as he used to.

The moment he entered the office, he phoned Sunny.

“Mr. Donnelly. I was also about to call you but it seems you always beat me to it.” Sunny remarked.

It was funny how he had begun to talk to Sunny even more than the other close people in his life these days.

“Have you begun to investigate the hotel?” Not in the mood for miscellaneous talks, Shawn cut to the point.

“Yes, Mr. Donnelly. I've been on it since Dawn. For now, the coast is still clear. Will keep on updating you until evening.”

“Good,” Shawn murmured and ended the call. He had way too much to think about.
.
He spent the rest of the day working with a half mind. Despite all, he still created time to call Serenity, to his greatest surprise.

“Hey, CEO.” She sounded surprised that he had called.

He was ready to take their relationship to the next level, hence, he made sure to be a little sweeter. “Hey, beautiful. Tell me your day is going just like you look.”

“Smooth.” She chuckled. “Thing’s pretty good here. We are making great progress. Foundation is almost done.” She said.

Shawn was sincerely glad to hear that. At least, something was going right. “Happy to hear that. Your voice just eased my troubles.” He mused.

“Why? Is something wrong?” Serenity sounded concerned but he shrugged it off.

“Nah. It's just work. Nothing I can't handle.”

“I trust the business mogul, Shawn Donnelly. Your name is huge for a reason.”

Now, it was his turn to laugh and blush. “Take it easy with your flatters, Bella Dama.”

“Ah— look who has taken some Spanish class.” With the way her voice was drawled, he knew she was laughing too.

Once again, Shawn felt satisfied. Knowing that he was making someone – a woman this happy was soothing. He was tired of causing pain.

He also was human. He wanted to be loved and hugged tightly — to be reminded that everything was going to be alright.

His head was beginning to throb again. He rubbed his temple gently, trying to alleviate that growing ache. “You’ve not been paying attention, Serenity.” He pointed out.

“Uh — what?”

“I mean, during our lovemaking, you’d have heard me speak Irish too. I speak six languages, Serenity. Aren't I amazing?” With a faint grin, he teased.

He heard the long groan from her. “Oh, please, oh, please. Spare the lady the bragging. By the way, did I just hear you say lovemaking?” She questioned.

He understood where she was going. “Yes.” He softly mused.

“Well, Shawn, you…” She was saying when someone from the other end interrupted.

Shawn could hear the humming of machines and the total buzzing of the site. She was doing a great job being in such a setting. It seemed more like what men would do.

“Erm, I have to go.” She sounded sorry as she excused herself.

Yeah. It was about time he returned to work too. “Alright, babe. Work hard.” He replied before dropping the call.

He knew why he’d call her. Sage was trouble. She could have been sent by his opponents to get to him. If this was going to be the last time he’d speak to Serenity, he wanted to do it.

He was glad he did it. And if he was to return safely, he’d return late nonetheless. He just had to do something to make it up to her. That woman — it had dawned on him that he cared for her.

His innocent and unblemished dove.
.
When he left his office after closing hour, “To Hotel Desire, Landers. I'm not going home yet.” He informed the Landers who seemed surprised that Shawn was going against his usual schedule.

It’d been a while since he swerved from his routine. While in the car, he called Sunny once again even though Sunny had just called him about forty minutes ago to tell him it was safe.

“Go ahead, Mr. Donnelly. She's clean.” Sunny informed him.

Shawn breathed a little right after. He resumed to getting flooded, lost in thought until Landers announced their arrival.

“Mr. Donnelly, we're here.”
.
Shawn entered the hotel and headed straight for the reception. It wasn't quite the luxurious type where you’d expect to find Sage. But then again, Sage was always the type to want to spend other money as long as it wasn't hers.

“Oh, we have been expecting you, Mr. Donnelly," the receptionist greeted him with a warm smile. "Ms. Sage is waiting for you in Room 703 on the third floor."

Shawn acknowledged the receptionist with a nod and. According to the third floor, he walked almost down the corridor until he found the room.

It was the last on the floor. Standing in front of it, Shawn took a moment of reflection. He was here, he might as well get this done with quickly.

He knocked on the door.

There was no reply until the fourth knock which sent Shawn’s suspicion hiking. He was about to abort the mission and get out as fast as a cheetah just as he’d told Sunny when the oak door flung open.

Inhaling, Shawn prepared himself for whatever was coming next.
