I arrived at Shawn's office a little early. I met his secretary in tow but Shawn wasn't present yet. She made me sit at the reception and encouraged me to wait for him.
"Mr. Donnelly will arrive in a few minutes. He's already on his way." She said to me after dropping a call.
She was a pretty girl with clear skin but had too much makeup on. I nodded at her with a polite smile and gently waited for Shawn's arrival.
About two minutes later, he arrived. Before his presence got nearer, one could already discern that a noble figure was approaching by how the workers busy with work had dumped them to stand and acknowledge the CEO's presence.
That was how strong the CEO's influence was. How strong Shawn was which made it more exciting when it was time to bring him down. The fall of a mighty one is the best after all.
"Good morning, Mr. Donnelly." I began as I also stood to receive him. He was being escorted by a few security guards.
He wasn't on dark sunshades today. He halted abruptly upon sighting me. "Morning, Ms. Fairchild. Since when have you been here?"
Gina replied before I could. "I phoned Mr. Landers to inform you of her arrival but I was told you were already on your way, sir."
"Oh, that's fine then. Sorry for keeping you waiting, Ms. Fairchild." He pardoned me with a tone laced with professionalism as though he wasn't the one flirting with me just yesterday.
Anything for the glam.
I dismissively waved my hand with a small smile. "Oh, it's fine, sir. It's an honor waiting for you anyway."
He began to walk into his office. "You flatter me, Ms. Fairchild."
I walked in after him. "From what I've gathered, you like to be flattered Shawn," I smirked, taking a seat in front of him.
"Now, now, keep that up, and I might do something we'll both forever remember." He placed his elbows on the desk and rested his chin on his hands.
I dropped my briefcase. "I think something is missing."
He glanced around. "And what could that be?" He asked with a creased brow.
"The professionalism in your tone just a few moments ago." I joked but when my eyes settled on the antique on his desk, I wished I could pluck Shawn's eyes and add them as a finishing touch to the ancient thing.
I have decided to push things up with him. I would go to his apartment later tonight and try to gain all of his trust. I didn't have much time left. I needed his trust as quickly as possible.
Shawn shortly laughed at my words. "Don't play dumb on me, Serenity. We both know that goes on when there's a third party. When we're alone, it should be something else."
"Something else, what?"
"Like me trying to woo you and you succumbing. Like you coming over and letting me show me in detail. After all, actions they say, speak louder than words."
Fuck Shawn!
A glob of saliva burned in my mouth. I was suddenly enveloped with this crazy urge to spit it on him but I reserved myself. I swallowed it instead.
At times like this when I tried to flirt with Shawn and just couldn't stand it anymore, I resorted to being professional.
"You—are good, Mr. Donnelly. I hope your girlfriend doesn't mind sharing you." I said, trying to pry into his romantic life.
Shawn inhaled deeply but I could tell it wasn't deep or emotional. It was a casual act. "Girls think I'm too good for them, so they just mess with me and dump me. Poor me." He faked a crying face, rubbing his eyes and I just couldn't resist laughing.
Placing a hand on my mouth, "What the...?" I let out a scoff. "You sure are one playful man for a CEO."
"What?" Shawn's right brow arched. "CEOs can't have fun?"
I raised my hands. "Never said so."
"Do you want to have fun with me?" His eyes bore into mine, making the chair suddenly feel harder beneath my butt.
The way his eyes held my gaze was a short moment of hypnic for me. I peered into his burnt-green eyes and saw the amount of confidence in them. How dominant they are and how much they are trying to Lord over me.
This was one of the things I fell for back then. Shawn's charisma was out of this world. It would take a nun not to fall for his tricks. Shawn was graced with the charm and the features to go with it.
The bastard!
I instantly bent and opened my suitcase to bring out the file I was going to submit to him as a distraction while my heart thumped loudly, threatening to burst.
I think I was going to have a panic attack once again. This was hard — very, very difficult. Even for me.
"Depends on what your definition of fun is!" I made an attempt to sound light but my tone betrayed me.
My voice came out a little Husky. Shawn would notice. Shawn would know something was up with me.
"Am I making you nervous?" He bluntly asked as I dropped the file on his desk.
No, I shouldn't lose this. If I lose my front, my hold, Shawn would be leading. I needed to maintain a strong woman facade. Shawn needed to see a strong woman, not the weakling Calista of six years ago.
And so, I lift my ass from the chair and crawled my chest onto the desk so that my face could be an inch away from his. "If by nervous you mean dripping into my underwear, then yes," I whispered into his face and he just sat there, entirely entertained and gazing at me.
I could read the lust in his eyes. I stood up, adjusted my jacket, and cleared my throat. "I look forward to having fun with you tonight. If of course, your fun doesn't involve biting."
It was evident that Shawn had been spellbound by that sole move I made. He didn't hide it too. Or maybe he knew what he was doing.
Maybe he wanted me to see how infatuated he was with me. He had a big innocent child grin on his face – the type that looks like a smile that doesn't fully reveal the teeth.
"I don't bite, Serenity. But if it's you, I'd love to bite all the places that you'll never cease to thank me for. But— you'll have to try me out to see. Come play with me tonight— please?" He settled his back on the chair.
He even pleaded. I think I was playing all my cards right.
I smugly shrugged. "Who am I to say no when the CEO begs?"
"For the record, you are the first woman I'd ever say that to. Makes me want to unravel you the more. Makes me want to see why. I'll see you tonight. Wear something sexy." He winked again.
He was good at that. Way too good. I stiffened.
This was the time when I retreated to use work as a distraction. "That's the file containing all the details from work yesterday. Everything there is to know is on there. I have to return to the site now, Mr. Donnelly." I nodded.
Shawn laughed and this time, it wasn't a noiseless laugh. "I doubt I'll ever be able to absorb the content or anything at all today until tonight."
He was good. I said it.
I turned away to the door. "Bye, now," I repeated, and without waiting for another of his replies, I stepped out of the office.
