We would have fun

It was about five weeks since Shawn proposed to me. That day, there was a surprise party thrown at my office, with all my coworkers attending.

A lot had happened within the span of those five weeks.

Alice had finally delivered a healthy baby boy. She insisted I give him a name and even her husband agreed to it. Eventually, I named him 'Oliver', which means 'olive tree', since they represent peace and friendship and I've always felt like Alice was a safe space to go to during my troubles with Shawn.

Also, I moved in with Shawn, and quit my job at the construction firm to plan our wedding perfectly. It was so exciting, and the intimacy and lovemaking felt even deeper now.

Oh, yeah...we were getting married in three days! It felt kinda weird...I would've never imagined getting married to Shawn of all people a month ago.
.
.
It was eight PM. Shawn took me to a five-star restaurant close to Gadget Inc. just to spend some time outside together.

The restaurant was dimly lit, having a romantic feel to it. Shawn held my hand, guiding me to our table in the corner, our fingers intertwined.

I couldn't help feeling all giddy inside. It was all still a bit surreal-being on a date with the man I'd tried to ruin not long ago.

We settled into our seats, the candlelight bright enough for me to see his face.

"This place is nice." I looked around, before settling my eyes on Shawn. He looked ravishing as ever in that dark red suit of his.

"It still doesn't beat the view in front of me." Shawn leaned closer from the other side of the table, a seductive grin across his face.

I couldn't help blushing, thanking the heavens that Shawn had taken the liberty to rent off the restaurant just for us tonight. We were alone, except for a single waiter far away from us on standby.

Just then, the waiter approached us, ready to take our orders, but Shawn waved him away. "Give us a few minutes, please. We'll call your attention then."

When the waiter disappeared, Shawn leaned forward again, his expression a bit serious. "Serenity, I want to talk about the past. About what happened between us."

My stomach clenched. Gosh, really? It's been five weeks, I thought we've moved past that.

"What about it?" I managed to ask with a smile.

Shawn took in a deep breath before speaking again.

"When we were in high school, I hurt you. I ruined your life. I know that, and I'm sorry. I would've called you and explained myself, but I couldn't cause I was ashamed. I wasn't the one who sent those pictures, but I was still the one who orchestrated the whole thing from the beginning. I should have been honest from the start."

He paused, reaching across the table, his hand gently holding mine.

I felt my heart skip a beat, but for once, it wasn't cause I was anxious or afraid.

For once, I felt peace. Seeing Shawn constantly reminding me of how sorry he was, healed a part of me that was still somewhat hurt from the past.

I shook my head, feeling my heart lightening.

"I can't believe we're getting married in three days." I squeezed his hand back affectionately.

Shawn's eyes sparkled under the candlelight. "Neither can I. It's like a dream come true."

We talked a bit more before finally, Shawn signaled the waiter.

The waiter returned, pen and notepad in hand.

"So, what can I get the fine couple this evening?" The waiter had a polite smile on his face as he looked at both me and Shawn.

Shawn turned his attention to the menu, furrowing his brows.
"Hmm, everything looks so good. I don't even know if we can de-"

"Just order a bit of everything! We're celebrating, remember?" I cut in with a giggle.

Shawn grinned. "Sounds good to me." He shrugged, handing the menu back to the waiter.

The waiter smiled. "Very well then. A bit of everything coming right up."

With that, he left to get our order.

Shawn turned to me again, a curious look on his face.

"So, about your parents," he began. "What do you think they thought of me?"

I giggled, remembering the rather frosty reception he'd received from my parents. "Well, let's just say, I think you've got your work cut out for you in winning them over."

I and Shawn had gone to see my parents a week ago to tell them about our engagement. My dad had been easier to convince, but my mom suspected foul play.

"Don't tell me you're after his money? After everything he's put you through?" She had pulled me aside and asked that day.

"Seriously mom? You of all people should know I'm an independent woman. Besides, I and Shawn are in love. I've forgiven him now, so you have nothing to worry about." I replied.

It had taken a little convincing, but I was sure they would warm up to him eventually.

Shawn chuckled. "I suspected as much. But hey, I'm up for the challenge. I mean, I've got three days till our wedding to prove myself, right?"

I smiled warmly at him. "You've already proven yourself to me, Shawn. Don't worry, you'll be fine."

Shawn smiled in return, caressing my fingers as we still held hands.

Just then, I remembered something that I'd forgotten to ask him.

"Hey, what about Sinclair? I mean, after everything, don't you feel unsafe knowing he might still be out to get you?" I felt genuinely worried.

Sinclair was an asshole and seemed like a dangerous one too. He had proven that he was willing to do almost anything to get what he wanted and even threatened to 'get me out of the way' if I proved I wasn't useful.

Only heaven knows if he still has something planned for Shawn.

"Don't worry my love." Shawn used a rather dismissive tone as if Sinclair was merely a minor inconvenience. "Sinclair is all bark and no bite. I have my eyes on him. The minute he does something out of line, I'll be the first to know and will use it against him. Then he'll be out of my hair for good."

I sighed. It was good to see Shawn this confident.

The waiter arrived with our order and we ate to our satisfaction, talking and laughing like two teenagers in love.

After a long night, we finally went home, heading straight to his room...or rather, our room.

Shawn locked the door, the sly grin on his face making me know that we had the same thing in mind.

We would have fun...
