==============

It was lunchtime. Hanni and I were happily eating by ourselves, chatting about random stuff.

It's been a week since I've been seatmates with Haerin, and surprisingly, she hasn't become a distraction.

We were both awfully quiet during classes.

Not that I expected much because we were both too shy to talk to each other—at least that's what I felt—feel.

But ever since then, I was losing interest in her, conceivably because there wasn't much interaction between us.

Perhaps it was indeed just a simple happy crush. You know, where you have a crush on someone just for fun or 'cause you're bored?

However, the case was different with Hanni and Hyein.

Hanni and Hyein behind us were having the time of their lives.

I envy them, to be honest. I wish I could talk loudly and freely with Haerin the same way they do, like best friends.

Anyway, Hyein couldn't join us as usual because she ate at the dorm with Mrs. Lee.

So it's just Hanni and me, sitting across from one another.

"You know, I really can't see myself falling in love with another girl..." Hanni trailed off.

"I know, right? Same," I replied. Weirdly enough, it felt wrong to say.

I hesitated at first but ended up letting it roll off my tongue.

We continued diving deeper into the topic until Hanni's face turned cold.

"Hm? What's wrong? Cat got your tongue?" I asked.

She lowered her head and asked me to come closer.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Don't turn around, okay?"

I nodded.

"I think Danielle and Haerin are approaching us," she said, making my eyes widen in fear.

Let's just say I chose to ignore her order and turned around. Seeing the two well-known people in our class approaching us—yeah, it could be the end of our worlds in just a few seconds.

"What- What do we do?" I asked her nervously.

"I don't know! Maybe just act like your usual self," she shrugged anxiously, raising her head when Danielle and Haerin greeted us.

"Hi, guys! Mind if we share a table with you?" Danielle asked.

"Oh! We don't mind," Hanni beamed.

I remained silent and only raised my head once to greet them with a smile.

They started chatting, getting to know each other.

Knowing Hanni, she's just playing along with them, making sure to reassure them that we acknowledge their presence. But there were times when even she couldn't help but feel left out because the other two were talking about things neither of us knew.

Throughout the period, I remained silent, only answering or talking when spoken to or laughing along when needed.

To be honest, I'm an extrovert, the loudest at that.

But when it comes to people I don't know or am barely close to? Yeah, expect me to become mute.

I'm too shy, so don't blame me!

Anyhow, I continued eating in silence, checking my watch now and then to see if we were running late for our next class.

The three of them noticed me and tried asking me questions, only to helplessly get turned down by my closed-ended answers.
