Tides of Virtue – Chapter 26

The truth. Serenity and Natsu had end up telling the guild the truth about the events that had occurred at the cathedral. They believed—or at least Serenity did since Natsu was set on telling them that he'd defeated her with his awesome skills and overwhelming power—that the guild should know the facts, just incase Ciara again made an unwelcome appearance, so that they knew exactly what they were dealing with.

After that there'd been a lot of hugging and crying from Lucy, who had about crushed Serenity with her strong embrace. Then bandaging from Mirajane, talks from Master, laughing and joking with the other guild members, and then the much-awaited Fantasia parade. Natsu and herself had planned to make a float for it, but after the events with Laxus and Ciara they both were exhausted and had opted to just watching from one of the roof tops where they'd sat and drank some beer they'd taken from the guild and Natsu stuffed his face with all kinds of food they'd bought from the shops that were selling special Fantasia foods.

Soon even that came to an end, though. At the guild they'd announced the winner of the Miss Fairy Tail contest, which had been Serenity—she hadn't been surprised at all since the "incident" that'd occurred because of Laxus. Lucy had been overjoyed, blabbing on and on about how they were going to be able to pay their rent now. Serenity had just found it amusing.

Now, however, Serenity found herself at Magnolia South Gate Park sitting beneath the great tree whose branches were thick with pink blossoms of many vibrant shades. Next to her was Natsu; his arm was around her shoulders as the two Dragon Slayers leant their backs up against the trunk of the tree, their eyes staring up at the wider expanse of the night sky, which was splattered with pallid starlight. She smiled.

"Isn't it beautiful?" she inquired, glancing over at Natsu with sparkling blue-eyes. "Just think; there's thousands of stars and planets up there. Maybe even other worlds with life of their own. It's amazing to imagine, isn't it?"

Natsu met her gaze, his eyes soft, his hair falling gently over half of his forehead. "I don't need to imagine it, because my whole world is right here." He kissed her temple tenderly, his arm not around her shoulders moving to grasp her hands, which she'd had clasped in her lap. She sighed lightly.

"Since when did you know all the right things to say?" she laughed, leaning farther into his side, resting her head on his chest. From the corner of her eyes, she saw his face flush bright red.

"Well...I...I mean...just..." he stuttered, fumbling with his words. "Gray...umm...he's been...helping me."

"Really now?" she grinned. "You actually got along with him long enough for him to give you lessons on girls and flirting?"

He cleared his throat. "Yeah. I guess you could say we got along." This caused Serenity to erupt into fits of giggles. She could just imagine the two glaring at each other and getting into fights over what was the proper way to treat a lady; obviously Gray had won, since Natsu never said things so sweet. She was glad he took Gray's advice, but at the same time she really thought Natsu's denseness could be quite adorable.

"You don't have to change the way you treat me, ya know," she stated lightly.

"But...since you're my girlfriend, I should, shouldn't I?"

She sat up at that. "I'm your girlfriend?"

Natsu's cheeks turned so red Serenity was sure they were smoldering. "I mean...aren't you?"

Smiling, Serenity leant up and kissed him on the cheek. "Yeah. I guess I am. I mean you like me, I like you, might as well date, right?"

He laughed. "Yeah."

"Natsu?"

"Yeah, Serenity?"

"I wish we could just stay like this forever." She rested her head back against his chest, her eyelids drooping low. "Because I have this terrible feeling in my gut that something bad is going to happen."

Natsu pulled her closer, resting his forehead against hers. "As long as I'm here, I'm not going to let anything happen to you...ever. I promise you that."

Breathing deeply, she let out a content sigh, before looking back up at the starry night sky. This time, however, she saw not the bright twinkling stars, but the blackness that surrounded them. There was so much darkness in the world she realized then—so much evil. Each person of integrity was like a bright star against the void of corruption. Like herself, with her tides of virtue trying to change the oceans of vice. They could shine brightly, or be strong and high, but evil would always be there, outnumbering them—a dark, never-ending shadow.

Sorry for taking so long to update! I've been going through so much lately, but after I saw some people commenting again, it really gave me the inspiration to continue. This is the final chapter of Tides of Virtue, I probably, will at some point, start the second book, but I still have to plan out the plot a bit more... I hope this was worth the wait...sorry for it being so short, but I just needed to wrap everything up a bit. Book number two will be titled Oceans of Vice, so you know what to look for when I finally post it up.

I hope you all enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it!
