THE TRUE IDENTITY

[5] SURVIVE!LIVE ON!

As the family continued walking along the path, the boy slowly dozed off and fell asleep on his father's shoulder. Suddenly, the mother turned to the father with a worried expression on her face and asked, "Did we fail as parents?". The father paused for a moment and then responded, "I think yes...I don't know what our son thinks, but I realize that I need to spend more time with him".

Feeling determined, the father made a decision, "Then it's decided. I will take a leave tomorrow. Let's go for a picnic and trek tomorrow". The mother smiled, "He will be really happy. But we will have to leave him behind one day. Will he be okay then?", she said in an emotional tone.

The father reassured her, "He won't ever be alone!!! I promise that we both will be with him forever. He will become a fine and strong man, I'm sure". Just as they were talking, the boy woke up and asked, "You will never leave me alone...Promise...". The parents looked at each other and replied together, "Yes, sure son sure". The boy smiled. They felt a sense of joy and togetherness as they continued on their journey.

By this time that star had become even bigger. Then the boy noticed something and asked his father " Dad, why does that big star have smoke behind it?"

No sooner did the father look at the sky than his face became as pale as a ghost and shouted, "Run away, run away!!....it's....it's....it's a.....meteorite
......it's a meteorite!!""

The father grabbed the hand of the mother and began making a run for it. They had reached a small bridge over a small stream when the asteroid hit.

It had hit near the Blue Mountain with a big bang. The boy's countenance reflected that he was filled with a sense of terror and so were his parents. The sky became very bright and was filled with smoke. The fragments scattered in every direction. Some fragments destroyed the bridge but luckily the father had thrown the boy away from the bridge in a reflex.

The parents were in pain cause the debris of the broken bridge had pierced deep into their body and their legs had been crushed. The boy was in tears. He crawled up to his parents and tried pulling them out shouting," Please come out...please ....please ....Dad!....Mom!"

The dad started talking with a dejected voice, " Run away son, more asteroids are going to hit...., can't you see the sky? There is no more hope left for us. I can't feel my legs anymore....the pain is too much to tolerate. Leave us and save yourself, my good boy " as he smiled through his teary and pain-stricken face and fondled his son's face lovingly.

A sense of terror and remorse filled the boy's mind as he started sobbing even louder and spoke with his broken voice, "Mom... Dad....you promised you wouldn't leave me alone...hadn't you....If you leave me here I will be all alone ....please don't leave me alone Dad...Mom...please...please"

His father had lost much blood by now and was barely able to speak.

His mother began with tears rolling down her cheeks, " I am sorry, my boy......it doesn't seem like we can keep our promise to you. But we will always be with you. Whenever you feel lonely just look up at the sky ....you will see us within the stars. It will hurt, I know but you have to keep on living ."
(The boy sobbing)
The mother reached out her hand to her son, fondled his head and continued, "Don't worry, the world is very big ....you will sure find many friends....and one day you won't be lonely anymore. Just beware of the darkness this world holds and you will uncover the truth one day. Eat good food, take care of yourself and remember ....don't catch a cold"

The boy was unwilling to move and started crying even louder but at that moment Aden arrived at the bridge, running.

His( the boy's)mother was surprised and overjoyed beyond belief and asked Aden to take care of her son like his younger brother. Aden agreed and asked for leave.

Both the father and mother then bid their son a final and tearful farewell. But the boy was still not willing to budge and kept crying. So Aden had to take him up in his arms and began to make a run for it as there were more asteroids incoming and the place would be devastated in a while.

While Aden took the boy and began running, the boy's mother and father shouted in chorus at the top of their voices, " Survive!! Steins ....Live on!!!...We promise we will be better parents if ever we get a chance to become family in next life......Farewell, Steins .....take care. We love you" as they burst into tears they had held back in front of their son.

Steins, with tears flowing out of his eyes, shouted at the top of his desperate voice, " No no no ...I'm sorry....I was wrong....you are the best parents in the world....I too love you both....Aden please stop...please ...I will save my parents ....I will save them.... I will ..." as he lost consciousness.

Back at the bridge his dad and mom felt a sense of relief because their son had escaped and hugged each other as they felt their life coming to an end. With tears in their eyes, they said to each other, "I love you "

But before they could complete, the island was hit by a multitude of asteroids and the whole area was broken into fragments. Aden and Steins had escaped in a motorboat.

While they were escaping, Aden was asleep Steins regained a little of his consciousness and opened his eyes to see a silhouette of a hooded human standing on the devastated island surrounded by flames, after which he lost consciousness again.

1-Did the asteroids destroy the blue mountain?
2-Were those asteroids really asteroids?
3-Why wasn't the place evacuated and the citizens not notified about the asteroids...even though it's something that can be known beforehand?
