The hallway bustled with the activity of various chattering students conversing about the weekend. As Ciara walked alongside Natasha, her arms crossed over her red uniformed collared shirt and her gaze seemingly elsewhere but Westlake. Natasha gave her a sideways glance, breaking the silence.

"Have you talked to your dad since you left yesterday? I'm not saying have a full conversation but at least to let him know you made it safe to my house." Natasha asked, keeping her tone light but sympathetic.

Ciara hesitated at first, her steps slowed slightly. "Yes, He texted me last night about hwo my mom is trying and he's looking into family counseling for us if needed, I know he's just trying to smooth things over and let me make my own decisions on this.." She trailed off as she stopped at her locker grabbing her combination lock and turning it to the left twice then the right once.

"But..why do I hear a but coming on." Natasha pressed on gently, leaning shoulder first against a nearby locker next to Ciara's.

Ciara exhaled as she grabbed a spiral notebook from inside and a copy of a long way down. "I just don't want to hear the same excuses from him about her or vice versa." She explained taking a pause to shut her locker  as she continued. "But I need him to pick a side. To pick me and accept that I can't accept her back into my life just because she claims she's clean"

Natasha nodded thoughtfully even if she thinks Ciara might be making a mistake. "That's fair. But if you don't at least try to think about why your dad is trying to look at this from both slides-." Natasha's cut off by the bell ringing signaling there's 15 minutes before class starts.

"You don't understand," Ciara stated on the defensive. Her voice goes up an octave or two. She glanced over to Natasha who got off the locker and started walking with Ciara walking beside her as she continued. "You don't have an addict for a mother and might I add both of your parents are happily married while mine are freshly divorced so you don't understand how frustrating this all is."

Natasha didn't know why Ciara is taking a more defensive personal jab at her. She wasn't trying to discredit how Ciara felt but she's just trying to tell Ciara to give her mom a chance. As the two moved down the hallway to their shared English class on their left, Tia and Marissa passed them, deep in their own conversation.

"I think I aced that test." Marissa said, her voice brimmed with confidence as she took her phone from her dark purple jacket pocket.

Tia smirked, adjusting the straps of her backpack. "Of course you did. We only studied for, like, five straight hours. I, on the other hand, might've flunked because someone distracted me.'

Marissa chuckled, nudging her playfully in the side with her elbow. "If you mean me, then you're welcome. At least I got you to stay awake and focus for more than twenty minutes."

They both laughed as Marissa waved goodbye to Tia and made her way to the stairwell going up the steps towards her upper-level class.

Marley and Alli walked side by side through the bustling hallway, their laughter cutting through the chatter of students. As they reached Alli's locker, she turned the dial and opened it, tucking her books inside. "I still can't believe you had your boyfriend over last night and Y ou pretending like that isn't a big deal." Alli teased with a smirk.
