"Get your head in the game!"
My teammate lightly smacked the back of my head and laughed. I lifted one of my eyebrows and looked behind me as my eyes followed her, skipping across the court back to her place.

I put my hands out, ready to bump the ball as soon as it passes the net. I wasn't the tallest of my team, clearly, and so I usually would play up front or set the ball.

I tilted my head downwards as I watched the ball, the setters wrist positioning to hit it. I felt my eyes deepening their gaze.

Smack!

The ball flew quickly over the net and I took my hands out of their position as the outside hitter passed the ball to me. I jumped and striked the ball as hard as I could towards the floor on the other side that was surprisingly unguarded.

Bang!

The volleyball smacked against the floor, making the floor jump beneath me. Ellie williams, the star player on their team, started to yell at the players in the front and their faces filled with annoyance. Ellie shook her head in disbelief.

I have to admit, her team was usually better than this. I chuckled to myself as I saw ellie visibly getting angrier as her team kept making mistakes.

The game ended, my team winning with 70-55. I stared at the scoreboard, lost in thought with pride.

"Casey!"

One of my teammates who I'd been trying to get closer to sat down next to me, the metal bleachers clattering as she set her waterbottle down.

"There's gonna be a small get-together after this, wanna come?"

I sighed in disappointment. I was hoping to just relax after the game but I couldn't say no to her. Abby Anderson.

"Yeah, sounds cool. You gonna be there?"

Obviously she was gonna be there. I resisted slamming my face into my hands out of embarrassment.

"That's why i'm asking you."

A low giggle emitted from her closed lips. I smiled like an idiot, cheesing over everything she said.

I stood up and slid my phone out of my pocket as I walked to the locker rooms. I felt someone shoulder-check me while I was distracted with my phone and- of course. It's Ellie.

"Hello? I'm right here?" I said, clearly annoyed. Her collarbone jabbed me in the neck slightly when we collided and I scrunched my face as I rubbed my neck gently.

"Yeah, how could i miss it." She smirked to herself.

I furrowed my brows even deeper. As I stared at Ellie, I lost myself in trying to figure out how I could comeback from this.

The year had just started and I wanted to make it my resolution to not be such a bitch. Maybe a little out of my league but it's worth a shot! Just kidding, I didn't even make a new years resolution.

It was like my legs were on autopilot but I wasn't about to stop myself. I pushed her, my hands colliding with her chest. Embarrassingly enough, she barely even moved. I was lucky she fell back at all considering our difference in size and strength.

Ellie immediately bursted out laughing. Her hand pressed on her stomach, curling over slightly.

"What's so funny?"

"You, dumbass"

My eyes widened as if it was a shock to hear her insult me. I didn't find fighting her being the best option so I just turned around and walked back to the lockerooms.

I'm immediately greeted with Abby at the first locker.

"What happened?" She tucked her jersey in the crevice of her arm and chest.

"Nothing, just Ellie being a jerk again"

Abby snickered to herself, closing her locker and turning to me.

"You guys need to stop fighting"

Abby followed me as I walked to my locker which was on the other side of the room.

"We're not fighting, it's hard to explain"

"Really? Because Ellie said you were"

"You talked to Ellie?" My voice came out more protective than I intended.

"She's not a virus, I can talk to her if I want"

I sighed and pulled my shoes onto my feet. I needed a new pair because my current ones where tearing at the seam. People always use it as an excuse to talk to me. One time in my psych class a random frat guy even offered to buy me new shoes. That was the only time I thought I ever liked a boy.

"I know that, I just thought we were on the same page"

"Well we aren't, Ellie's a great person"

"I don't know how you guys are friends. She hated me from the start"

"I'll keep my mouth shut"

Abby pressed a finger to her mouth in a shushing gesture. I rolled my eyes and she sat down next to me on the bench.

All this talk about her wanting me to be friends with Ellie makes me think she doesn't like me. I don't even know if she likes girls yet.

The thought of me dating Ellie was a new one, though. She wasn't my type. Personality-wise at least. Everyone always tells me she rushes things in relationships. I have enough things to stress about anyways.

"Okay, we can go now"

I finished tying my shoe and stood up, grabbing my backpack with my things in it. Being broke in college was definitely not the most exciting lifestyle. My bag couldn't even hold my waterbottle with all the tears in it.

My phone buzzed from my pocket while we were walking to her car. The text was from one of my teammates who was kind've new. She had a heavy accent from somewhere in South America so she must be a transfer student.

"I heard about a party at Ellie's, you coming?"

Abby slung her keys out of her bag and opened the passenger door for me. When she came around to the driver side I had to know if it was really at Ellie's dorm.

"Where's the party at, by the way?"

"Did I forget to tell you?" Abby's face winced, knowing I wouldn't like the response I'd get.

"It's at Ellie's"

"The one I told you I don't like?" I set my phone down on my lap. I was more interested in this conversation than anything on the internet.

"It'll be like she's not even there, trust me"

During the car ride I had a lot of time to think about it. I didn't really mind Ellie being there, it could even be a good place to start being friends.

I wasn't sure what to expect out of this. I never had interest in getting close to her before today and I was more nervous about actually talking to her. At least there'll be some liquid motivation.
