when i got to abby's room i was already tired from today and i think she knew that.
"do you want anything?" she searched the fridge that she got from a yard sale and started listing foods.
"or we just have water."
"chicken sounds good- and water." i leaned back against the wall behind her roommates bed. my back cracking as i maneuvered around, making myself comfy. i probably needed to get that checked out but who has money for that anyway? i patted my pockets for my phone and swore under my breath.
"abby?"
"yeah?" she called from the kitchen, turning on the air fryer.
"i think i forgot my phone!"
"i can go get it if you want?"
"no, i'll be fine." i stood up, my vision going black. i held onto the wall before my vision came back. the dorm was only a flight of stairs away, i could make it quick if there weren't any problems. i left the room, barefoot. i couldn't bother putting shoes on for the simple task. i should've let abby do this but i felt like she deserved to be in her room.
i was walking up the stairs when i spotted the only two guys from the party outside the dorm. fuck, i didn't feel like dealing with this. i looked down at my socks trying to avoid eye contact.
"oh, casey, you left your phone!" i felt my eyebrows relax when i heard his upbeat voice. i thought it was cute they waited outside to give me my phone. i smiled as i walked up to them.
"thanks!"
he took my phone out of his pocket and just like that, it was over. no small talk, no trouble, nothing. he smiled before placing the phone in my hands and continuing the conversation with his friend. i guess they didn't drink as much as me.
i made my way back to abby's room, knocking at the door lightly. i heard a beeping from the room which quickly turned off and rummaging footsteps got closer to the door.
"you find it?" abby said as soon as she opened the door. i held my phone up and walked back into the dorm. i slammed myself back on the bed, tapping my phone to turn it on.
knock, knock, knock
abby slid the plate of food onto the table next to the couch and looked out the peep-hole.
"oh." abby stated quietly. what does that mean? she cracked the door open slightly, just enough to see their face.
i couldn't tell much from her voice so i tried to peek over the wall to see who it was. my face straightened and i focused my eyes, not believing anything i'm seeing. i quickly hid behind the wall. it was my ex-girlfriend. why was she here? we'd been on no contact for months.
"is.. is casey here?" shit, shit, shit. i gotta hide somewhere. abby doesn't know about her yet so she's probably gonna let her in.
"and, who are you?" abby questioned, skeptical on letting her in.
"one of her friends. i just wanted to catch up since i saw her in the hallways!" her voice was fake. we hadn't ended on that bad of terms so why was she here? i heard the door creak open and footsteps approaching me. god damn it, abby.
she jumped slightly when she saw me, chewing on the food abby had made me.
"uh.. hi.." i swallowed my food quickly, it burned my throat.
