"........,"
The officer's words echoed in my ears like thunder, leaving me dumbfounded.
Under arrest?
For defending my sister?
My blood ran cold.
This couldn't be real.
"T-take me to her!"
My voice cracked as I pleaded, desperation gnawing at my insides.
I needed to see Si-Yeon, know she was okay.
The cop, a mountain of a man with a face as stoic as rock, simply shook his head.
"No, kiddo. You're coming with us."
Disappointment slammed into me, heavy and suffocating.
Panic clawed at my throat as I struggled against the cuffs.
"I want to see her,"
I rasped, my voice choked with a mixture of fear and defiance.
"Calm down, or we'll tase you."
The woman cop, her voice clipped and professional, didn't offer any sympathy.
"Fucking hell,"
I muttered under my breath, the fight draining out of me.
Defeated, I slumped back against the wall, unable to tear my eyes away from the scene I was leaving behind.
Maybe the fallen gang members felt a sliver of the misery I did right now.
As the police car screeched away from the school, my world shattered into a million pieces.
Si-Yeon.
I'd promised to protect her, to be her shield.
And here we were, both caught in the crossfire.
My stomach churned with a cocktail of emotions – worry, anger, fear.
Suspension from school was the least of my worries now.
My reputation was likely in shreds, my family bracing for shame.
Not like I give a fu*k.
Potential imprisonment?
I hadn't even considered that possibility.
All because I'd defended my sister.
The silence in the back of the car was deafening.
The officer in the driver's seat turned to look at me, his gaze cold and unyielding.
"You're lucky this isn't worse, kid,"
He grunted, his voice lacking any warmth.
"We got footage from the cameras. It's clear self-defense, but you still went after them."
"I'll take any punishment,"
I muttered, my voice barely a whisper. The words felt hollow, even to me.
"As long as she's alright."
The cop snorted, a humorless sound.
"You're one hell of a naïve kid. This isn't over yet, not by a long shot."
His words were a stark reminder of the situation's gravity.
Despite his warning, a strange calm washed over me, an odd detachment.
