"Hold it together, birds of a feather
Nothing but lies and crooked wings."The girl hummed the melody along inside her head as she continued to doodle across a blank piece of paper in her notebook, none the wiser to what was going on around her.
It was a cloudy and gloomy day, yet she'd been stuck inside at school, sitting all bored and alone in class while she waited patiently for the bell to ring, signaling the start of her day.
She was a junior in highschool. Her days had all began to blur together and become monotonous, most days being no different than the one before.
Truth be told, she hated it, but it's just how things were in her small town. Kids her age went to school, tried to keep good grades, all while trying to figure out who they are and what they want to do with their lives going forward.
"Veeeeeee-nuhhhhhh," The girl knew that sound all to well, the corner of her lips cracking ever so slightly into a smile as she pulled one ear phone out of its hole as she met the eyes of her best friend.
"Raaaaaaae," She softly spoke back, greeting her cheery best friend with a gentle smile as the girl slid into the seat next to her, tossing her bag to the floor before turning to eagerly meet her gaze now, clearly itching to spill some type of gossip judging by the look plastered across her face.
Vena clicked the volume on her phone in her pocket to lower it, directing her attention to Rae as she quietly listened along.
Most days went like this. Rae was Vena's best friend since childhood, their parents also being friends long before they'd even been conceived, and the two often confided in each other for everything.
Rae was quite the looker too, a pretty blonde with eyes as blue as the clear sky's and a cheery personality to match, but one that was never overbearing or snobby like you'd typically expect.
Vena had dark purple hair with medium blue eyes, similar to an ocean's yet her personality was a lot more laid back and relaxed compared to her counterpart. Not out of shyness, mind you, but simply out of a larger mixture of things that most people didn't know about or understand.
As the two continued to chat, their free time flew, and before you knew it, the bell had rung, signaling the start of the day. Slowly but surely, conversations turned to low grumbles of protest as the class shuffled around and settled into their correct seats, quieting down fully once the teacher had finally joined at the head of the room, plopping her binder down on her desk with an exhausted huff as she slid into her chair.
Vena yanked the other headphone from her other ear, placing the rest of it into the pocket of her hoodie as she relaxed her back into her chair, expression flattening into one of unimpressed boredom yet again as the teacher began to speak.
For the most part, Vena drowned her out, the voice nothing but a dull murmur in the back of her mind as her brain began wandering, easily dissociating like she normally did majority of her days in school.
This next topic wasn't exactly something she cared to pay much attention to anyway, and since biology and science were her best subjects, she didn't have to spend much of her time actually paying attention in class anyway.
"Wait, what?" The slight edge in her best friend's voice caused Vena's head to snap up, her eyes finally focusing back on the teacher and off of her notebook as she frowned slightly, trying to figure out what she'd missed.
"You can't do that, can you? We've had these seats all year & this semester is almost over, that's so lame!" Rae tossed her hand up in the air, face clearly displaying disgust as she back-talked her teacher.
