I glared as Nancy gave me that fake smile, I wanted to just rip it off of her face. Sopdapop didn't even see the tension between me and her, to him everything was fine, but I knew Ponyboy, and Johnny picked up the tension. Soda smiled, "Hey Steph! Where are you off to?" "I have a date with Steve," "Oh that's right! I remember him talking about that, where yall going?" "I'm not sure yet." Nancy looked me up and down, "I'm sure he's taking you some place fancy...are you really sure you wanna wear that dress?" "What the hell is that supposed to mean?" "Oh! I just meant, you're going to a fancy restaurant, you ought to dress for the occasion." I knew she was just trying to get under my skin, she was trying to break me in front of Sodapop...and I couldn't let that happen, not at all. I smiled, "Thanks for the tip Nance, very helpful." Sodapop gushed, "I'm so happy that both of you get along so well!!," I fake smiled, "Yeah...me too."

He plopped down onto the couch next to Ponyboy, "Guess what guys?! Nancy is friends with Cherry and they've been hanging out, isn't that wonderful?!" I smiled, "That is wonderful! Nancy, what do you think of Cherry?." Nancy rolled her eyes and looked at me, "Cherry is a sweetie, and she'a basically my best friend..she's not very fond of you though." Sodapop quickly spoke, "Now Nance, that's not true. Steve told me that the other day he saw Kylee, Steph, and Cherry at the diner." Nancy furrowed her brows, "Oh really? What were y'all doing at the diner?" I quickly spoke, "Uhhh, just catching up. Kylee and I ran into her out in town and we needed to catch up, that's all." I quickly wanted to leave at that exact moment, too many questions were being asked and I wasn't exactly comfortable with the questioning look that Nancy was staring at me with. I quickly went for the door, "Well, I'm just gonna wait for Steve outside, I'm sure he's on his way." Before I could get the door open, Nancy stood and grabbed my arm and pulled me back to the living room, "No need to wait outside, you can wait in here and chat with us," "...yay."

6:50 pm

I was getting ready as fast as I could, I didn't get out of work as early as I had wanted to. My father opened my bedroom door, "Hey bud, can we talk?" "Can it wait? I'm gonna be late for my date with Stephanie," "About Stephanie, I don't really approve of you having a girl in your room with the door closed," "Dad, can we please not do this right now? Nothing happened," "You need to use protection Steve-," "Dad! Please for the love of God, stop talking!!" "You need to know these things Steve, she's going back to college in a few days and you definitely don't want to send her back with a surprise." I covered my ears with my hands, "Dad, please stop! Nothing happened, nothing will happen." He sighed, "When your mother got pregnant with you, I wasn't ready to be a father and I failed you...I'm not letting you fall into the same pathway," "I promise I won't." He patted my shoulder and walked out of my room, I looked at the clock and realized I needed to go.

7:00 pm

I pulled up to the Curtis house at 7 pm, on the dot. I walked up the porch steps and opened the door, to find Steph, Two-Bit, Ponyboy, Johnny, Soda, and Nancy all kept up in the living room watching tv. Two-Bit smirked, "Hey princess, Romeo is here." Stephanie lifted her head, her face lit up as she saw me, "Steve!!" "Hey! You ready to go?" "Yes!." She quickly stood and made her way to me, Nancy stood as well, "Hey Steve!! How was work?" "Oh...it was fine." She wrapped her arm around mine, "Steve, you're so strong...I bet that makes work so easy for you." I quickly pulled away from her and spoke, "Well, we're going now." Sodapop smiled, "Have fun!!" Steph spoke, "Tell Darry not to wait up for me." We both stepped out onto the front porch, and once the door was shut, I spoke, "Ev I'm sorry I didn't get out of work sooner-." She interrupted me by eagerly pressing her lips against mine, I passionately kissed her back. She pulled away, "Let's go."

7:30 pm

I was watching tv in my living room, but the only thing that was on my mind was Bryce. I know kissing him earlier was risky, because Nancy easily could've saw, but I can't let her ruin anything between me and her brother. I was zoned out until the doorbell rang, I opened the door and was met with the devil herself..Nancy. She smiled, "Hey Cherry!" "Oh uh hey! I thought you had plans with Soda tonight," "Oh, well he was tired from work and only wanted to watch tv so I left. Anyways, can I come in?" "Uh, sure." She stepped inside and looked around, "Pretty nice place," "Thanks." She turned around and glared at me, "Well, I saw what happened today in the mall," "Oh you mean...when my ex boyfriend tried touching me?" "No, when you kissed my brother." I froze, "I-I didn't mean to! He had saved me, it-it was just the heat of the moment," "Hmmm, Cherry you know I like you. You're a nice girl, but you're a shitty liar." I looked at her confused, "What?" "How come you were at a diner with Stephanie and Kylee the other day?" "Oh uhm, just catching up," "I don't believe that," "And why's that?" "Because you don't seem to be the type to catch up with a bitch you made fun of in high school." I quickly spoke, "Fine, you wanna know what we were talking about? Alcohol. Kylee's boyfriend lives at Buck Merrill's place, and I wanted to get my hands on some...vodka," "Really?" "Yes, really." She sighed, "Well, I'll be damned. I'm sorry I questioned your motives," "It's all good," "Well, I need to get home and put that plan you and me discussed into action," "You do that," "See ya."
