The three men kept their promise and stopped by when they were on their walks. Not much was said, they were just checking in to see how you were doing, and asking if you needed anything. The answer was always no, but it didn't hurt for them to ask. Jillian also kept her promise to sit with you during meals, and you started to feel less like you were sticking out like a sore thumb, and more like you belonged. Jillian offered to cut your hair before you started your first day on Monday, but you politely declined. She was sweet, but you didn't want to impose on her downtime. Like most people in the compound, she had weekends off. The kitchen staff seemed to be the only exception to the rule, however they were heavily staffed, and plenty of people that overlapped in schedules.
Monday morning you grabbed an early breakfast and dressed in a pair of black high waisted jeans with a simple band tee and a dusty rose colored cardigan and your shoe of choice was a pair of combat boots and to complete the look you added a pair of oversized glasses. You grabbed your phone and made sure that Tibbs had enough toys to last until lunch before you ran out the door and locked it behind you.
You arrived at the lab for a quarter to nine and stood outside the door nervously, wanting to go in but at the same time, not sure where you were supposed to sit.
"You're early" Tony came from the dining room to see you standing there.
"I don't want to be late for my first day" you said shyly.
"Are those prescriptions?" he asked, looking at the glasses on your face.
"They are for computers," you said honestly. He nodded and walked a little closer to look at you.
"Makeup?" Tony asked, seeing no hint of the black eye.
"Just a little" you blushed and he backed away. He opened the lab door and you followed him in to see they had put in a large L shaped desk with three monitors on it for you. On top of the desk was a crystal vase filled with a dozen red roses.
"Those weren't here this morning" Tony frowned seeing the flowers. You walked over to the desk and saw the ergonomic black leather chair and sat down before seeing the small note in the flowers.
"It says "Good luck with your first day"" you cooed and took a deep inhale of the flowers.
"Not a lot of people have access to this room" Tony frowned and started typing in his phone. He suddenly smirked and put his phone away. He walked over and opened the top drawer on your desk and you saw a key card there waiting for you, with your picture on it. "This is yours so you can access the lab anytime you want. It will record your hours as well" he advised. "I've already clocked you in for the day."
"Thank you" you said and looked up in time to see Bruce Banner walk in with a concerned look on his face. "Hello" you quickly greeted him.
"Oh! Hello" Bruce awkwardly waved. "You're the new data analyst," he said.
"Yes, my name is Y/N" you introduced yourself. He walked over and shook your hand.
"Bruce Banner, I work on the other side of the office. I recommend getting noise canceling headphones while you are here. Tony like's his music" he gave an impish smile.
"I'll make the investment" you giggled.
"I already did," Tony said with flourish while opening the second drawer on your desk. There sat a pair of light pink headphones and you giggled. "Friday has the web based training ready for you, it's similar to what you did for the government and for Shield. You should have that done by the end of the day, and tomorrow we will put it into practice. I have faith we can expect great things from you" Tony gave a kind smile. He tapped you twice on the shoulder and you saw your login information was on a sticky note on the computer as Tony was walking away. You synced up the bluetooth headphones to your phone and turned on some music before logging in and going straight to work."How did your first day go?" Steve asked when he stopped in at the end of his day. You couldn't help but smile as the three men climbed over your railing.
"Well, it started out with these beautiful flowers on my desk. Someone here is very thoughtful" you were still positively beaming. Steve flushed a little, but you didn't quite catch it. "I did a lot of learning on how Tony wants everything done, and it's a little more intricate than I'm used to, but I think I'll really enjoy the new challenge" you smiled happily.
"What kind of flowers?" Bucky asked, as though he hadn't been with Steve when he was picking them out.
"Red roses" you had a smile bloom across your face again. "A dozen of them in fact," you whispered.
"Sounds like you have a secret admirer," Sam teased.
"I doubt it, I think it's someone just being sweet" you waved the suggestion off. Steve sat down beside you and nervously fiddled with the hem of his sweater.
"Maybe" Bucky's gaze flicked between the two of you as he playe-d with Tibbs. "How did Tibbs do today?" he asked.
"Well, he ate all of his treats, and it's apparent I'll have to get him some kind of cat tree to play in at this point. He made a mess of my bed while I was working, the little rascal. He just gets bored easily. Did you three have a mission today?" you asked innocently.
"No, we were mainly in the gym today. Steve was squirreled away in his office for the afternoon looking at the mission dockets for the week. Friday was generating them for us before you came along, but I guess now you'll have a hand in it" Bucky shook -his head.
"I only say the location that the data brings up" you corrected him. "I don't think Tony trusts me that much yet, and will likely double check my work. I mean, I would" you shrugged.
"He's a very careful man" Steve said softly and you turned to face him. "He learns from his mistakes, and tries to do better every time" he complimented his coworker.
"Oh?" you asked, in surprise.
"Yeah, you should see all the modifications that he made to Peter's suit for instance" Steve said.
"Peter?" you asked.
"Spiderman," Sam explained. "I assume you signed the non disclosure agreement" he said and you nodded. "He's in college with Pietro and Wanda at the moment, smart kid when it comes to books but streetwise not a clue." Sam explained to you."How old is he?" you asked with genuine curiosity.
"He just recently turned 22. He's working on his masters at the moment. Had dual credit classes in high school," Steve spoke with a sense of pride in the kid.
"Yeah, I'd say he's pretty smart," you were amazed by this information to say the least.
"But enough of the kid, let's talk business. Are you going to decorate your desk?" Bucky asked.
"Maybe. The flowers seem like decoration enough for now" you mulled over it in your head. You did want to add a few things to your desk since it was large enough. "Maybe a picture of Tibbs" you decided.
"Don't you collect anything?" Steve asked you curiously.
"Books" you said automatically.
"What about snow globes or statues?" Bucky seemed invested in the conversation and you blushed and shook your head.
"I used to collect snow globes but I had someone visiting once and they lost their temper and destroyed them all. I haven't had the heart to start up a collection again" you sighed. "I had one that my brother bought online from Paris, it was beautiful" you cooed. "It had a little Eiffle tower in it that played the song "La vie en rose" from the music box underneath" you reminisced with a far off look in your eyes at the memory.
"That sounds wonderful. Would you want to listen to it together sometime?" Steve smiled, gazing at you with unmasked adoration. You weren't catching onto it though, you were still in your own little world. Sam and Bucky shook their heads at your cluelessness to the Super Soldiers affections towards you."Of course! I'd love to maybe Sam and Bucky would like to join in too when we decide when," you answered, completely oblivious to the man's advances towards you.
"Oh, we wouldn't want to impose and that does seem more up Steve's alley then mine personally. We can figure something else out to do as a group on a different day," Sam winked in Steve's direction hoping that he understood why he had turned down her invite.
"What about you Bucky?" you asked not wanting to leave the other man out.
"I'd love to, but my schedules are pretty crazy right now but I'll free up time for you, Doll," Bucky said with a cheeky tone and making direct eye contact with Steve as he spoke.
"I have it on my phone, we could listen to it now" you offered, missing Steve's crestfallen look.
"Yeah, but nothing beats it on Steve's record player," Bucky told you.
"Oh, you have a record player?" you asked, turning to see Steve brighten up at your sudden full focus being on him.
"Yes, I listen to it usually at night before bed to wind down" Steve nodded. "You can come up to my room to listen to it if you'd like and you're more than welcome to bring Tibbs along as well," he offered.
"Oh, that would be lovely" you cooed. "Thank you so much for the invitation, I'd love to" you smiled broadly.
"Speaking of Tibbs. Bucky, the more I look at Tibbs, the more he reminds me of you before you got your memories back and your head straightened out. The whole black mask thing that you had going on made you look like a little feral raccoon..." Sam drifted off while Bucky reached out to smack him. He laughed and dodged it easily.
"How long is your mission tomorrow?" you asked them.
"It's here in the good ol' USA so we should be home tomorrow night. You won't be lonely tomorrow night" Sam winked.
"I do enjoy your evening visits" you sighed happily.
"Do you?" Bucky asked with a smirk.
"I do, you three have really helped me feel less like a stranger in a new place" you gave a sweet smile. "So truly from the bottom of my heart, thank you!"
