You walked out of the garden nursery with a red rose bush, and a yellow rose bush to go with the pink one that Steve had bought you. Steve carried out three large pots, a smaller pot (for the miniature rose bush) and three bags of soil. You were confident you would have lots left over, and maybe could do this again. Steve packed up the trunk and back seat while you just opened doors for him. When he was done, he opened your door for you and buckled you in as you got in the SUV he had gotten for the evening excursion.
"I have an idea for tonight" Steve said as he got in his side of the car. You looked at him with bright eyes of excitement. "Yes, making love later" he added with a chuckle.
"And getting good and dirty with potting plants" you added with glee.
"There's that too," he nodded. "I'm keeping this as a surprise I think," he said with a grin.
"I do love your surprises" you sighed wistfully as he pulled out of his parking spot and started driving. "But you have me curious" you looked at him with an appraising eye.
"You'll like it," he promised.
"As long as you are there, I'll like it" you sighed.
"Did you want tea or something cold to drink?" he asked as he got into traffic.
"I'd love a strawberry lemonade" you said after some thought.
"I know the perfect local cafe, and they have drive thru too" he said as he started guiding the car through the city streets. When he didn't need both hands, he would reach out and hold your left hand, and when he needed it he would pull it away temporarily. Before you knew it you were at the cafe and Steve got you the largest strawberry lemonade they had, which was bigger than your head, and one for himself. He chuckled as you put them in the center console and they barely fit. He drove you both back to the compound and he drove on the grass to the side where your little apartment balcony lay, and you could see Tibbs standing in the window when you looked over. Steve ran around and opened your door and helped you out of the car while you went and started opening the doors and getting the lighter items and carrying them over to your balcony and slipping over the railing. Steve grabbed the heavier items and started carrying them over. He wouldn't let you take any of them, but slipped over himself and set them down on the floor. You took a moment to unlock the back door and Tibbs ran out but you picked him up quickly and went inside to get his leash. He squirmed a bit until you got the leash on him and then you carried him back outside where Steve was waiting patiently on the opposite side of the railing. You tied up Tibbs and walked to Steve and stood on the opposite and he dipped his head and brushed his lips against yours.
"I'll see you soon, dove," he whispered softly.
"I'll see you soon Captain," you purred. He kissed the tip of your nose and he chuckled.
"I'll let myself in" he said softly and went to get back in the car. You watched him turn it around and drive back towards the front before heading back inside to get some scissors, leaving Tibbs unattended for a moment, as well as grabbing your mini rose bush. You came back outside and started separating the pots, keeping in mind where you wanted to place them. You looked down at your pretty dress and decided to go change quickly and ran back inside, leaving the door open. You put on a pair of black shorts and t-shirt before coming back out. Just as you were getting ready to open the first bag of soil Steve came through your apartment and walked out.
"I'll get that," he said softly with a small command. You halted in your tracks and he cut open the bag before he poured soil into the first pot. He continued for the next three pots while you went to each one and dug out a hole for each plant that would be deep enough. Steve then went and he started taking out each rosebush and putting them into the holes for you, not allowing you to tamper with the soil any further because he was worried about thorns cutting your skin. He then set up the four rose bushes to where you instructed, and you both stood back. The pink roses were in the center with the yellow and red rose bush on either side. Even with the evening coming on so quickly, there was plenty of sun for them to flourish. Steve then went and grabbed the garbage and said he would be right back. He went over the railing with two armfuls of garbage and you went inside to wash your hands since that's all that got dirty. Steve came in a few minutes later and got washed up in the bathroom, and followed you back outside to sit on the swing.
"It needs more plants," you said, studying your little garden.
"Someday when we have a house of our own, I'll build you the biggest rose and flower garden" he vowed. You giggled and kissed him on his cheek. "It's going to need a wrap-around porch, with a swing on the front and back," he added after a moment.
"Oh really?" you asked, raising an eyebrow in amusement.
"So you'll have a choice of where you want to sit and read," he grinned.
"Hmm, I think I like this" you nuzzled into him and he chuckled. "How many bedrooms?" you asked.
"Well, I think at least five. One has to be a master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom so we don't have to share it with the kids," he said thoughtfully.
"What about when family visits?" you asked with a giggle.
"We will have a small three bedroom cottage for when we have company after we have the kids" he said with confidence. "We will need a big kitchen, and dining room. A good sized living room, and at least two extra bathrooms, one on the main floor and one on the top floor" he continued with the fantasy. "We can have a finished basement with a wine and mead cellar, and a family room to play games and just have big movie nights" he smirked.
"What about a library?" you asked with a large smile on your face.
"Main floor, floor to ceiling with a big picture window and a cozy little nook for you to curl up and read. A desk in the center of the room so I can work from home on mission reports, or maybe two desks so you can work from home too" he looked at you and you gave him an approving kiss on the lips.
"I love it" you cooed. "Just like I love you" you added a little shyly.
"That's the second time you've said it," he said softly.
"I don't want you getting tired of hearing it" you giggled.
"I'll never get tired of hearing that from you" he swore. "I love you too" he kissed you softly on the lips. "Go get your book, I'll read over your shoulder" he gave you another quick kiss and you jumped up to go get your book.
"There they are" Sam and Bucky came close to the railing and slipped over with their foldable chairs.
"How are you lovebirds?" Bucky asked.
"Oh, look at the little garden over there" Sam pointed out the rose bushes. "Looks pretty good!" he said approvingly. TIbbs was making a racket and Bucky set down his chair before picking up Tibbs.
"Steve barely let me lift a finger" you giggled.
"Thorns" Steve explained, still reading over your shoulder.
"That explains it. We need your expert hands on the keyboards tomorrow" Bucky was quick to back Steve up.
"You won't even notice, you'll be gone all week" you pouted a little, not liking the fact that you were about to be separated from Steve for four days.
"Don't worry, we will be back to bugging you by Saturday. I would say Friday, but I'm going to see my Jilly-bean as soon as we get back" Sam said.
"I'll be at your apartment first" Steve murmured to you.
"I'll be here later, I don't want to be a part of the reunion. I feel like that would kill the mood" Bucky chuckled to himself.
"Tibbs wouldn't complain," you reminded him.
"I would" Steve quipped quickly.
"That's why I'd rather wait," Bucky shook his head.
You nuzzled into Steve and put your book away, and he just wrapped his arms around you a little tighter and gave you a kiss on top of your head.
"It's good you two got together. You compliment one another" Sam gave a soft smile. You couldn't help but think that Steve had you wrapped around his little finger. If he asked you to move in again, regardless of how short of a time it's been, you might actually say yes. You liked the dream house he had described to you. It sounded like a real dream home. And it would be perfect in your own opinion for friends and family to come visit if you did have kids. But it was also somewhere you would be able to work from home and still be functional to the team.
"We might have to cut tonight short," Steve said after a while. Conversation had been flowing between the three men so easily, and you had been lost in your own thoughts. His announcement had caught you off guard and you looked up at him in surprise.
"Yeah, the sun is almost set," Bucky nodded in agreement. "Gotta make it an early night," he said as he got up from his chair. "Are you two going in?" Bucky asked.
"I'm just running up to my apartment really quickly. Will you be okay here?" Steve asked you. You couldn't help the giggle if you tried.
"Of course I'll be fine," you assured him.
"Be right back" he gave you a quick kiss on the lips and stood up, joining both Sam and Bucky who were picking up their chairs.
"Why don't you three go through my apartment?" you asked them curiously.
"I don't want to get your floors dirty" Sam pointed out his shoes.
"Floors wash, I can do that after work tomorrow" you gave a bright smile.
"Much obliged" Bucky nodded and Sam followed him through your apartment with Steve on their tail. You picked up Tibbs and carried him in, running to use the bathroom quickly. Once you were done you stopped to refill your bottle of water and barely sat down when Steve came back into the apartment through the front door.
"Hey dove" he said, holding something behind his back.
"What is that?" you asked with a giggle, seeing something that looked like fabric balled up in his hand.
"We are going to do something just you, me and Tibbs" he said coming towards you. "Do you trust me?" he asked softly.
"With everything, including my heart" you nodded with a soft smile on your face.
