Before the gentlemen left for the night, Steve confirmed that you would come up to his place on Saturday night to listen to the record player. Both Bucky and Sam said they would be busy, although with what, they didn't specify. You were content with the rest of the evening and went to bed early. You left your window open to let in the cool spring air.
When you got up the following day, you got dressed in a pink button up and black pencil skirt with a pair of pumps before going for a quick breakfast and going to work. You started fifteen minutes early, but Tony didn't say anything. You didn't have any new surprises today, but you weren't expecting anything either. You put on your headphones and started going through data from a week ago and scanning through it. You carefully made spreadsheets of places of interest and land coordinates. You did that the entire morning, and by lunch time you were dying for a cup of coffee. You entertained the idea of grabbing one of the reusable Star Wars 21 ounce mugs that you had usually reserved for water, to use as a coffee mug from the cafeteria. Your mind was made up that you likely would, as you needed the extra boost before you started pulling data from satellites. You couldn't help but worry about the teams out on missions today, but Tony and Bruce seemed unaffected by it.
At lunch you stopped by your room and it was nearly a disaster zone with Tibbs having gotten into mischief. You closed your door and quickly used your abilities to start cleaning up while you picked up Tibbs and just held him. You had half a mind to say something cross to him, but you didn't have it in you to be mad at your little masked bandit. He did tend to get bored, and you obviously didn't leave him enough puzzles to work with. You decided you would spend your lunch ordering more toys online and just refill them now before you went to the cafeteria. Time was precious, and you didn't have much to waste. Once the room was cleaned enough for your liking you summoned all of his puzzles and set Tibbs down on the floor at your feet. You went and cut up the treats and put them in before grabbing your coffee mug, and heading back out to the cafeteria, carrying Tibbs again.Jillian was already waiting at your usual table and she held out her hands excitedly for Tibbs so you could go get your food in peace. You gave a soft smile and handed him to her before you hurriedly went to get your coffee filled, your plate and Tibbs' plate as well.
"How is being out of training?" Jillian asked once you sat down again.
"There's a lot of data" you admitted."I like the challenge, but I'm going to need more coffee" you gestured to the large jug.
"Damn, what kind of mess are you working with?" she asked in awe.
"I'm pretty sure it's already been gone over, and I think he's testing me" you said with a smirk. Tibbs dived into his plate and you pushed it further away from the two of you so you wouldn't get dirty. "I'm going to find things that Friday didn't" you vowed.
"You go girl!" she cheered you on. "I love this for you. You are going to make him wish he hired you sooner" she said with a huge smile on her face. With that the two of you went and focused on your meals and talking about the books you were reading until the end of lunch.
Once Tibbs was returned to your apartment, you went back to work with your coffee. Tony came over and looked at you a little concerned at the size of your cup, but you were determined that you were going to get through this data in record timing. You barely noticed that Tony and Bruce had left at one point, and continued working.
"Y/N?" Tony came back into the office and you looked up from your screens to look at him in surprise, your glasses perched on the end of your nose.
"The cafeteria is about to close," he pointed out.
"Oh no! Tibbs! He made such a mess of my apartment earlier too" you locked up your workstation and didn't pay attention as Tony followed you to your apartment. Sure enough, your books were all over the place again, and there were clothes all over the floor when you opened your door. You felt like crying, you didn't mean to forget him. You didn't have time to clean up, and you certainly couldn't do it with Tony on your heels. Not the way you wanted to at least.
"Here, hand me the bandit" Tony said as Tibbs was clawing at your legs to be picked up. You picked up TIbbs and handed him to Tony with unshed tears in your eyes. "I'm pretty sure we can handle having him in the lab" he said decisively. "I've made him some puzzles to play with, they won't be as easy as the pet store ones," he gave a small smile. "Come on, we will go get you something to eat and we will talk about work" he gently nudged you out of your apartment. You sighed and followed him blindly, trying not to cry. Tony was being completely understanding, and all you wanted to do was scream in frustration.
The pair of you walked to the employee cafeteria, and you saw that Tibbs' plate was already ready for you, but there was slim pickings for you personally. You hesitated and looked at the cold food section, while your stomach growled menacingly. You were getting a lot of stares from other employees since Tony was standing with you.
"Nothing you want?" Tony asked expectantly.
"I'm too hungry to choose," you admitted. "Honestly, I'm probably too upset with myself to eat though." you huffed.
"I can't let you go without eating" he rolled his eyes. "Here, you take Tibbs and his plate and I'll get you food" Tony handed you back your little raccoon and you nodded, grabbing his plate and heading to the table you normally shared with Jillian. You were sad you had missed out on her company tonight. You wanted to hear about her day too.
Tibbs dove into his meal like he was famished, although you figured he might as well be since he was left alone for too long. Tony soon joined you with three plates piled high. One with lasagna and garlic bread, one with salad, and one with chocolate cake.
"Thank you" you gave a grateful smile and Tony shrugged before sitting down beside you. He watched Tibbs as he ate with his little hands, and you dug into your own meal. You were halfway through when you saw Tony take out his phone and started going through screens quickly. You weren't sure what he wanted, but you were anxious about it. He seemed to be politely waiting for you to finish however. You looked away and quickly made yourself eat as fast as possible. Tony continued to wait you out. Once you were done you went and refilled your large bottle of water after rinsing it of the coffee from earlier and added ice cubes. You came back to the table and watched Tibbs finish eating while Tony was still busy with his phone. He finally set it down on the table between the two of you and you saw he was looking at your data on his phone.
"Friday didn't catch this many bases" Tony started, looking at you with pride in his eyes. "I made the right decision. You are the woman for the job. Tomorrow I want you to keep going through the data, and bring Tibbs with you to work so you don't come home to a large mess again. Next week I think I'll have you start making the mission plans, once you are more comfortable with going through the data" Tony told you.
"Sure, that's no problem" you said, in slight shock from the turn of events. You were supposed to ease into the position, and you didn't think he would trust you with team missions yet. But here he was, offering it already.
"It's raining out, I don't think you'll have your nightly visitors" he said after a brief hesitation.
"How did you know about that?" you asked in surprise.
"I know almost everything that goes on around here" he rolled his eyes. You stared at him and he sighed. You were panicking that he had seen you use your abilities on camera or something. "Don't worry. I'm not watching you that closely. Bucky, Sam, and Steve talked about it at breakfast. They've grown fond of you" he grinned. Inside, you let out a sigh of relief. "I'll have a glass enclosure ready for Tibbs in the lab in the morning. Don't go back to the lab tonight" he patted you on the shoulder and got up. You nodded and grabbed all the empty plates and dropped them off while Tibbs followed you around like a lost puppy. You got back to your room and opened the door and Tibbs was demanding you picked him up. Tony passed by and went back to his side of the compound and you sighed heavily, closing the door behind you. You looked around for camera's again, and made sure all the doors were closed before you started using your abilities to clean up again.
Once you were done you went into your bedroom and cleaned everything up by hand, not wanting to risk it if there were indeed camera's outside. Your brother would never let you hear the end of it if you got caught. Because then you really would have to go home with your tail tucked between your legs and hope that no one ever found you again. Finishing your task you went to the kitchenette and made yourself a tea before grabbing your tablet and putting TIbbs on his leash. He started to make a racket, excited that he was going outside again. One thing he didn't get into at least was your flowers, and you were grateful for that.As soon as you went outside the door, you saw on the seat of your swing was a little white box with a pink bow. You looked at it curiously and tied Tibbs up before going to the box. You picked it up and sat down and looked for a note, but couldn't find one. You opened the box only to find a snow globe with a pink rose in the middle. You saw there was a little wind up for music and you cranked it until it was at its end and it started playing "It's a wonderful world". You smiled so much it felt like your face was going to split and you looked in the box and saw a small note at the bottom in the same handwriting as all the other notes.
"For a hundred years I searched for some place to call my own, only to find that your eyes are the only place that felt like home" you read the note out loud. "This is so sweet" you cooed, and looked at Tibbs who was just walking around and exploring where he could. "Who would want someone as damaged as me?" you mused out loud. You let the music finish playing before you went back inside and placed the snow globe beside your roses, deciding that you would put that as your first decoration on your desk.
You went back outside and played old music on your tablet while you pulled up your kindle, a smile toying at your lips in memory of the note. You had slipped it into your bra to add to the other two as a memento. You had only spoken to Bucky, Sam and Steve about the snow globes before, but there was no way that one of them would be interested in you like the note seemed to be indicating.Couldn't it?
