"Impressive resume, you only work at a bar at the moment?" Tony Stark asked. You were currently sitting in a high rise office building that said "Stark" on the side, better known as Stark tower. It's where he previously had named it the Avenger's building. You were sitting in a comfortable three piece black suit, with a pencil skirt instead of pants. You had chosen a cream colored blouse for the meeting, and your long sleeved blazer covered your bruised arms. Your hair was up in a bun, and the glasses you chose to wear but didn't really need were perched on the end of your nose. They were precariously close to falling off. You had been trying not to look around at the office, which was about the same size as your entire apartment. His large mahogany desk was all that separated you and the man that sat in front of you clad in a pair of acid wash jeans and a tightly fitted AC/DC band tee.
You were kinda jealous at his level of comfort. You would rather be wearing something comfortable as well, but you were here to impress him. Based on the offered salary, you would be able to make more than enough to send home to your family and their struggling farm. You knew you should have stayed behind to help them out more, but something about New York had been calling you, and for the last ten years, you had been doing what you could to help out back home and visiting once a year. But your new home was New York and you loved it here.
"Yes, SHIELD wanted to renew my contract as a data analyst, but I had wanted to move on and try different things" you nodded in confirmation.
"That doesn't pay much" he regarded you closely, as though he was trying to get a good read on you. You knew he had likely done his research on you already. You had worked for the government, and for SHIELD, five years a piece. You had graduated top of your class in university for being a data analyst, and had been approached by several top secret organizations to be their data analyst but you wanted something with flexibility and chose your positions carefully. Several non disclosure agreements later you were now only working one job, and unfortunately it was at your abusive boyfriend's bar where you mixed drinks till ungodly hours of the night. Your only reprieve was that you didn't live with him, and you certainly hadn't slept with him for over a year since he started cheating on you with some promiscuous girls lounging in the back corners of the bar. You had hoped with this move, you could finally get away from him. You didn't feel you deserve the happiness that you wanted so much in life. Not the love like your parents have. You had been through several boyfriends and the endings had always been ugly. This one, you had a feeling would be very ugly.
"I work on a permanent contract" Tony said, as he pulled out his phone. "I don't share my staff. If you get fired, everything is free and clear. If you quit after six months, I black list you in the USA. You would have to go back to Canada to find another job" he warned you. You already knew this when you read the information on the job, and researched Tony's work ethic. You checked on Fishbowl and there were no negative reviews in regards to the work environment that he had created for the industry. Everyone loved their job with Tony and the Avengers. Salaries were increased every year, and they all lived fairly comfortable lifestyles.
"I'm well aware" you nodded, thinking that the money could really help your family.
"Are you also aware you expected to live in the compound itself since you don't have a family? We work weird hours and I like to make sure that my staff makes it home safely" Tony said as though this was something that was common.
"I can make the adjustments" you nodded, thinking this was your chance to get away from John, your boyfriend.
"Any special requests?" Tony asked.
"I get two weeks a year at Christmas to go home to visit my family, and Sundays are my own to do with as I please" you said. Tony nodded and started typing into his phone.
"I'll pay the moving company to have you brought to Compound A. I don't generally hire data analysts, I use Friday for most things. But I'm trying something new" Tony said as though it was a done deal.
"I didn't see the contract yet" you pointed out.
"I'll have it couriered to your apartment by the end of the day." he continued to type into his phone.
"I'll need a few days to read it over" you said, and his eyes cut to you as though he wasn't expecting that response.
"Very well, I should have anticipated that" Tony stood up and you followed suit. He held out his hand and shook yours, maintaining eye contact with you as though he was still trying to figure you out. You were tempted to reach out with your powers to read his mind, but you didn't. He deserved his privacy, and as far as you were concerned, he would allow you your own privacy.
After shaking his hand you turned to walk away with confident strides as your heels clicked on the floor beneath you. You made it to the elevator and pushed the button and waited while holding your breath. As soon as the doors opened you walked in and exhaled and hit the button for the ground floor. You refused to relax until you were out of the building.
