"DO YOU have any plans for New Year's Eve, Y/N-chan?"
"I do. I made a promise to Mikey that we'd go to the Shrine together," I replied casually to Sakura-san's question while brewing a pot of coffee over the kitchen counter. We were inside the cafe's pantry for a short break after serving our customers tirelessly for half a day.
It was now December 30th. Only a day left until the end of this eventful year. Observing the yearly custom, most of the families had been very busy tidying up their homes to welcome the new year with a clean slate and also buying ingredients for traditional dishes. Christmas decorations were also now being replaced with Japanese ornaments and can be seen everywhere. Even my grandma's cafe shop was embellished with a traditional Japanese theme to coincide with the occasion and all the waitresses wore maid kimono outfits designed by none other than Sayaka-san.
"Mikey? Oh, are you talking about that cute blonde boy who is always picking you up at the end of our shift? Is he your boyfriend?"
I nodded bashfully. "M'yeah."
Sakura-san giggled. She squeezed me in a one-sided hug and gave me a playful poke on the cheek. "Aw~! You're so cute, Y/N-chan!" she ribbed.
I tried to squirm myself free without hurting her. Her large jiggling breasts were squishing me! It was suffocating! "S-stop that, Sakura-san!"
The door flew open, entering Sayaka-san.
She peeled off her white apron and put it on the hatstand close to the doorway. She walked over to us. "What are you girls doing?"
Sakura-san let go of me and turned to the older woman. "It's Y/N-chan! She's going to have a date with her boyfriend tomorrow on New Year's Eve."
"S-Sakura-san...!"
Sayaka-san chuckled and smiled. "Oh, you mean Sano-kun? Chiyo-san is very fond of him. I think he's the grandson of Chiyo-san's close friend."
"You know him, Sayaka-san?" asked Sakura-san.
"Yes! Sano-kun's a very sweet boy. Long before you girls worked here, he and his friends used to hang around here and would order parfait," Sayaka-san said with a finger touching her chin, thinking back. "I was surprised to see him all grown up now the last time he came here for Y/N-chan. It must be fate for the two of you to meet. You look good together."
I blushed. I did not know what to think of that. I was actually not a believer in fate. But if there was one thing I should be grateful for, it was my meeting with Mikey. My once-dull life had a total makeover after our fateful encounter. He was a golden ray of sunshine who radiated a contagious enthusiasm of an upbeat individual and overflowing charisma.
