"Oh my god mom, stop." August weakly protested as his mother tried to squeeze another pair of clean underwear into his saddle bags. Halfheartedly brushing her away. Alex chuckling as he finished doing up the strap to close his own saddle bag having already endured similar treatment from their mother.
The house was always quiet now that all their brothers and sisters had moved out. Both twins knew that they might be full grown men, their age and height would never matter to their mother. She was going to forever see them as her babies. Their dads were doing a better job at feigning to be casual as Alex and August finished repacking their motorcycles after being home for over two weeks straight.
Papa Caspian and Aspen were both hovering close behind their mother Hannah. Holland and Max were checking over the bikes one last time, ensuring both machines were in perfect running condition, and wanting to spend as much time near their children as possible before the boys hit the roads again for goddess only knew how long. Though, just like Hannah had to finally relent and accept that the boys were packed, had everything they needed and would soon be back on the road. Driving away from them for goddess knew how long.
When there had been eight kids running around the house, it seemed impossible that it would ever be quiet. Now that all their little birds had all flown the nest, Hannah and her happy harem found the giant house too quiet and empty.
Alex and August's sister Penny was doing her part to fill the empty nest, having given her five over eager parents three children to be grandmom and grampies for. It was more than apparent to all the siblings that their parents would not be satisfied until there was a veritable army of grandkids running wild through the house.
Alex and August knew their parents wanted them to find their mates, settle down, and make pretty little babies for their parents to spoil rotten and love to death. The twins however were in no mood to settle down. They wanted to explore the open roads and see where their bikes took them. Chasing adventure.
Alex and August both reached for their phone at the same time, both receiving a notification as a clap of thunder followed by a chain lightning bolt danced across the sky. Bringing everyone's attention to the rainbow glowing over the pack lands. Alex looked at August, "Lumi says she will be watching to make sure we stay safe." Lightning and rainbows were the symbols their sister had chosen for herself after finding her other half. The spirit of the storm, Alex mindlinked August, How do you outrun your sister when she is practically a god?
August laughed. No one ever outran Lumi, she had always known everything. Now it was just easier for everyone to accept Lumi with the mystery around her powers solved. August was about to tell his brother as much, when Papa Aspen joined the brothers. "Lumi just wants her family to be safe, she worries." Looking towards the rainbow with a smile on his face. Funny since once everyone had been worried about her and if Lumi would ever find her place.
August had practised his hunting skills one night, over a decade ago now, well before he had shifted. Following Aspen into the woods, wanting to see if he could remain undetected as Aspen made his way through the forest path. Except August had not been prepared to see his gentle father breakdown sobbing a prayer to his tree spirit to help Lumi. At the time, no one understood how Lumi could be an electric Fae when her father was of the forest. Now that everyone knew Lumi was half of the spirit nature of storms, a lot of things had made more sense.
Lumi was and always had been a force of nature. Alex was brushing off their father. Muttering quietly to himself under his breath that there were some things sisters did not need to see. Making dad Holland laugh. Loudly. Holland was the only one of their parents to grow up in a large, loving and close family. "Sisters don't care about boundaries, older sisters are the worst." Papa Caspian nodded in agreement, having been mostly raised by his own older sister Celestia.
