The afternoon passed slowly for Ariel as she waited for the appointed time to meet her mates, desperately hoping that Alex and August's endless promises were not false words. Binh was already certain that the spoiled pups would be over the god damn Selene hung moon for Ariel's desire to see where they had been raised. He was not wrong.
Binh and Ariel arrived at the appointed restaurant early. Waiting for Alex and August to join them. Ariel had started to smile long before the twins were close. Apparently arriving in a car tonight instead of their bikes. Both moving into the restaurant with Ariel barely giving any indication that their combined aura was too much for her to handle. Truly she had come a long way quickly. Before anyone had even finished their first drink, plans were already in the works for Alex and August to take their mate home to see where they had been raised and where they had come from.
As they all made their exit from the restaurant, Ariel had even let August and Alex share a hug with her. One at a time, and she looked and felt positively overwhelmed by the chaste contact. It wasn't bad, she felt like her body did not know how to react. Plans were set, and she was excited. Ariel, was looking forward.
The twins would arrive tomorrow at noon, giving them time to break the lease on their home, and for Ariel and Binh to pack and make their own required arrangements before leaving the city. Reluctantly Alex and August bid her goodnight, excited for what lay ahead of them.
That is, they were excited until they had time to think through what they had offered on their ride home. Ariel would be coming with them, to Golden Green, with a demon in tow. Their mom was going to kill both of them for hiding that they had found their mate, that they would both be sharing a mate.
There was a crack of lightning as they arrived at their rented home. A message from Lumi appeared on both their phones. "Call mom. Now." Both brother's sighed as they read the message while kicking off their boots.
Time was up. Ariel had shared her name. She wanted to meet their family. Alex and August were hopeful that having her in the safety of Golden Green, away from the city, away from the crowds would help her accept them. Accept the mate bond and the love they desperately wanted to give her.
"Call mom on speaker, she picks up for you immediately." August told Alex. Alex complied, throwing the phone on the bed in their master bedroom, as they began to methodically pack their personal effects back into their saddle bags. Preparing for a more direct journey home.
As August expected, mom picked up on the second ring. Which meant it was probably the first ring she heard when she answered. "Alex? Sweetheart is something wrong?" Alex and August heard their mom's voice over the line. Trying to sound bright and at ease to hide her anxiety at an unscheduled call from Alex.
"Hi mom." Alex called out. Alex had a whole voice that was just for their mom. Alex didn't say anything else. Waiting for August to take control of the conversation.
August called out his own hello, letting their mother know they were both on the call. Hannah intuitively felt the shift in her wolf sons. "Do we need your dads?" She asked her sons. Already able to sense that there was news. Aspen knew Hannah's heart. Already stopping his work on his latest carving and jumped to call Caspian, Max and Holland into the room before Hannah had even given the signal.
Alex and August in their rented home crowded around Alex's phone, a similar though more crowded picture in the master bedroom of the wooden house tucked in the woods of Golden Green as all of Alex and August's parents crowded around Hannah and the phone held in her hands. "Everyone is here now." She told Alex and August, as their dads each called out their own hellos mixed with the shuffling sounds of all five parents arranging themselves on the big bed.
August decided to jump right into it. "We're going to be making our way home, we should be there in two days, maybe three..." August's words stopped in his throat, he could feel the weight of what he was about to say. Could practically see his mother's over eager face, waiting to hear the cause for their return to home.
"We're not sure how well our mate is going to travel, we can't wait for you to meet her." Alex rushed out in the momentary quiet space August had left.
Time came to a halt. There wasn't a single word from their parents. No sound at all. "Alex you found your mate?" Hannah finally asked, after realising that she and her own mates had spent too long puzzling over the particular words their sons had used.
Alex and August had talked over each other then. Trying their best to explain everything to their parents. They were both sharing one mate. Confessing the true reason for their wanderlust. They had been looking for her for years. That the night in the city where they had caused so much destruction had been because of their mate. How Alex had happened to lose all his hair. Everything that they knew. Which still wasn't all that much.
Then when everything had seemed to be going so well, their parents while shocked and surprised were understanding and accepting just as Alex and August had hoped. Relaxing into wondering why they had ever put off telling their parents, when Alex said "Cassi couldn't even find any information on her at The Council Office and they had files on everyone." August looked at Alex. They had agreed to not reveal that most of their sisters were already aware of the situation with their shared mate.
That plan was out the window, "Cassi knew? You told Cassi you had found your mate before telling me? Telling us?" August scrubbed his hand down over his face. Alex and his inability to keep anything from mom.
After another hour on the phone, confessing that Cassi, Lumi and even Penny had already known something was up, Alex and August finally managed to end the conversation with their parents. Arrangements for a guest house to be available were underway to ensure Alex, August, their mate, and her friend would all be comfortable while staying at Golden Green.
Finally, later in the night than they had originally hoped, Alex and August were packed. They had made final arrangements with their landlord to vacate their rental tomorrow the twins tucked themselves into the large king sized bed. Eager for tomorrow, to see their mate. Both dreaming of having her on the back of their bikes. Her arms around their waist. Holding tight with her body pressed up against their back. As the bikes ate mile after mile of blacktop on the path back to Golden Green.
