Binh was reconsidering his position that torturing and killing the living was against his personal moral code as he watched in abject horror, unable to react quickly enough to first stop Ariel, then watching as Ariel was struck by a car that had swerved to avoid the pileup.
Landing hard on the unforgiving pavement. Three Hours Past Midnight burst into Binh's mind through the dream world. Letting the demon know that they twin wolves chasing after Ariel had caused numerous small accidents throughout the city as they tried to catch her. The ambulance and hospital systems were overwhelmed. The city was gridlocked. Help would not be able to reach her here.
Binh no longer cared about following protocol, avoiding notice. All he could focus on was Ariel. He scooped up Ariel and her bag and used a portal to the dream world to walk her into a different city, just outside a hospital with an excellent trauma team on staff, and currently no other patients. Binh walked her in through the emergency admittance doors screaming out for help. A gurney was rolled up and Binh carefully lay Ariel down, doctors crowding around, demanding to know what happened, starting i.v. lines, checking for injuries.
Binh was prevented from following her as she was brought into a trauma room. Listening through the glass as her numerous injuries were called out. Her left leg was broken in three places. Internal bleeding. Broken arm, concussion, lacerations and contusions all over her body. Scans were done, blood drawn, then she was wheeled past Binh for emergency surgery to set her broken bones, and repair her bleeding organs.
Binh gave Three Hours Past Midnight an update on Ariel, and where they were. In return the Raven let Binh know that the wolves were already giving chase to find Ariel. They were not getting the message that Ariel was not currently interested in becoming their mate. Were not respecting her wishes. It was infuriating to Binh.
Ariel remained in surgery for hours Binh sat vigil in the waiting room. Taking the nightmares of the humans waiting alongside him. Three Hours Past Midnight was gone to plead for Ariel to be refused if she approached Death.
Had she been tainted with vampire blood, it could have helped her heal faster. Or if she decompensated too quickly and died, she could have turned into a vampire. Lose her magic, and killed Three Hours Past Midnight.
Or if she allowed a werewolf or two to claim her, they would be able to share their strength with her. Again with the biting and exchange of bodily fluids. Gross. Nightmares were clean. Binh shuttered. Returning his focus to seeking out nearby nightmares. Staying at a moderately high level while he waited for news on Ariel.
As the surgery finished and she was transferred to a post op. ICU, Binh was approached by a hospital staff member, regarding any insurance or payment options. Binh paid for everything and had all charges forwarded to him. Finally being allowed to go and see her. A resident ran through the numerous injuries that had been repaired, plates and pins added to her leg to hold bones together and ensure they healed correctly. The plastics team had been down to minimize scaring on her face.
There was a tube in her throat helping her breathe. The surgeon assured Binh that it would likely be removed soon. Once she awoke and could breathe on her own. Binh hated seeing her like this. She was empty and broken.
This was not a natural sleep. There were no nightmares or dreams in her mind. None of unique spark that was Ariel was in this room now. Binh sat in the chair beside her. Wishing desperately that he could help her. Binh felt the sizzle in the room just as a Succubus teleported her way into Ariel's recovery room. Binh rose, putting himself between Ariel and the demon. Snearing with demon teeth at the interloper who had wrecked his content existence years ago.
