"This is ridiculous," Cherry whines as she stands up from the swing. The Doctor rushes past her, up the steps to the ruined castle, and the three humans trudge after him, a little disoriented having just woken up.
"Where have the children gone?" The Doctor scans the grounds of the castle for the children who were playing there beforehand. The grounds are empty now, spare for a few mole hills and yellow bags.
"I don't know, playtime is probably over," Rory tells the Doctor, who starts to scan the molehills with his sonic screwdriver. Rory inhales deeply, breathing in the air of the countryside and sighing. "You see, this is the real one. I just feel it. Don't you feel it?"
"I feel it in both places," Amy shrugs her shoulders.
"I feel it here. It's just so tranquil and relaxed. Nothing bad could ever happen here," Rory overlooks the park, leaning against an old stone wall.
"Not really me, though, is it? I mean, would I be happy settling down in a place with a pub, two shops and a really bad Amateur Dramatics Society? That's why I got pregnant, so I don't have to see them doing Oklahoma," Amy jokes.
Cherry watches the Doctor closely as he picks up a pile of dirt from the molehills, and then her eyebrows knit together as she realises that they aren't molehills at all, they're piles of dust, and the yellow bags are the school children's. "Doctor, what is that? What's wrong?" Cherry asks as the Doctor lets the dust fall back to the ground, a grim expression on his face.
"Playtimes definitely over," he breathes out.
"Oh my God," Amy shakes her head, realising that the piles of dust are all that remains of the children and their teacher. Cherry shakily covers her mouth, stepping forward to examine one of the piles, unable to come to terms with the fact that the whole class full of children has been reduced to ash on the spot.
"How could this happen?" She asks, eyes welling with tears as the Doctor wraps an arm around her shoulder and leads her away from the ash.
"What happened to them?" Rory asks the Doctor. In the distance, by the play park, a hoard of old people makes their way down the street together.
