After Gaea is defeated The Seven are all treated like legends. Their quests and accomplishments are told like bedtime stories. Demigods new and old whisper their names during fights as if praying for strength, guidance, etc.
The Seven all begin to Ascend. Because of how much power they will have The seven are all separated and paired with Gods who will help contain/train them until they are safe enough to be around humans again.
Annabeth is paired with Ares. Her domains have to do with fighting, battle, strategy, etc.
As he helps her he begins to feel something for her. It's not love, but it's something. Watching her plan, fight, and win is something special to him
Aphrodite chooses to work with Percy. Most forget she is still viewed as a goddess of war and sea-faring in some places. She was born from the ocean, but she chose him because she can see how all-consuming his love for Annabeth is.
