Drusilla died and sent Spike to Angel
When the gang needs help Angel says he knows a God but to summon him without being killed they need his Apostle to do it. They do something ritual maybe and find out Will attends school with them. They get him to call on Hannibal. He prays and is reverent and Hannibal appears
Angel says he met him as Angelus. Angelus hates Hannibal but respects him
Hannibal is like Cernunnos lord of the hunt viscous. Will is his beloved commands the hounds.
Will has his empathy/see ability and whatever powers Hannibal granted him
Angelus saw the bond Hannibal and Will shared and tried to recreate it and drove Drusilla insane
According to the diaries Will was stalked and driven insane by Hannibal leaving corpses for him to find. After a few weeks of stalking, Will was kidnapped and his village slaughtered. He reappears every few decades with Hannibal not far behind.
In reality, Hannibal courted Will. Will was treated poorly in his village for his ability to see and Hannibal saw this. He killed the ones who abused him and displayed their bodies for Will to find. One of their meetings was overheard by a villager and told the rest that Will was consorting with (their devil equivalent). They beat Will to near death and abandoned him in the forest where Hannibal found him. To save his life Hannibal bound them together with his magic.
Hannibal renamed Will when he saved him. He is literally Hannibal's will.
Scene where the gang needs some godly weapon or power. Will asks Hannibal. He prays and is reverent making the ones watching uncomfortable. Hannibal says yes just that he needs to make his offerings properly and he means sexually
