The Runaway - Part 6

"No doubt about it, Commander. Mira sent her to infiltrate Terra Nova. She's been lying to us the whole time. It was theatre.." Jim tells him. "More or less." He adds as he glances at Liam, who looked emotionless but as his father he knew. Liam felt disappointed in himself for not seeing it and hurt that he was used, and by a kid.

"Mira played me. She knew I'd let the kid in. Knew I'd believe her story. Knew I wouldn't send her away. Especially if the Sixers made a show of trying to get her back."

"She's the perfect spy. Young enough to be sympathetic but old enough to be capable." Wash says.

"First chance she got, she broke into that house, grabbed this container, whatever thing this is. Does it open?" Jim says later at the container Leah had taken.

"Sealed shut. No visible seams." Taylor says. "Sounds like it's hollow."

"Ask her to open it." Wash says.

"She might not know." Liam says looking at her.

"And might not tell us even if she does know. Bring her in." Taylor then tells Wash.

Liam closes his eyes for a moment and she brings in Leah. Jim takes out a chair for her.

"Have a seat, kiddo." Jim tells her.

Leah looks at Liam. He sighs and walks over to her, bending down to her level, she doesn't manage to keep eye contact.

"Hey. I'm not gonna ask you why you did what you did, but we got a job to do, so we need you to answer a few questions. And I need you to be honest. Do you understand?" He says and she nods a little, now looking him in the eye finally.

"Young lady, look at me." Taylor says and she does. "You know what this is." He asks and she shrugs.

"Is it a weapon?" Wash asks and she looks at her.

"Leah." Liam says getting her attention. "No more lies, okay? What's in there? Why does Mira want it?"

"I don't know. Mira didn't say." She says and Liam studies her face to see if she's lying. "She just told me to get it, so i did."

"Leah, why?" Jim asks.

"Why all the lies?" Liam asks her softly and she looks at him sadly.

"Because Miras got my brother." She says. "And she said she was gonna hurt him if I didn't steal back that box."

Jim looks at Taylor. Liam just stare at her, trying to read this girl, somehow not trusting his own instincts anymore.

"I'm telling the truth." She says.

"Take her to Pod Zero." Taylor says and Wash grabs her hand taking her.

"Please! I have to bring that box back to Mira or she'll hurt my brother. She'll hurt Sam! Please!" Leah says as she's taking out.

Liam sighs and Jim looks to Taylor.

"I'm gonna detain her until we figure out exactly what's going on here."

...

"Son." Jim says coming up to him. Liam was leaning on the railing outside the room they had talked to Leah, looking thoughtful as he looked the direction toward the clinic, toward where you were.
