The Runaway - Part 2

"Well, that's one tough young lady. Hmm. Imagine that, humping through the jungle on her own, from God knows where. It's amazing she made it as far as she did. You know, this could turn into a good thing for us." Taylor says.

"How do you mean?" Jim asks.

"Well, we need intel on the Sixers. Where is it they hide out? Who's their inside man here in Terra Nova?"

"But she's just a kid." Liam says.

"How much could she really know?" Jim asks.

"Well, we won't know anything till we gain her trust, make her feel at home." Taylor says and Liam sighs.

Elisabeth walks in.

"How's she doing?"

"She's still upset. But Yn managed to calm her down." She says.

"Yn has that effect on people." Taylor states. "But, till we find her a permanent place to live, she's gonna need somewhere to stay." He says looking suggestively at them.

"Well, she can stay with us. Right, Jim?" Elisabeth says.

He looks at her in disbelief.

"Elisabeth. So, what, a family of seven now?" Jim asks. "What about Yn?" He then asks turning to Taylor, who shakes his head.

"She would take her, I'm sure, but Yn lives with four teenagers and they're unpredictable." Taylor says.

Elisabeth turns to Jim again.

"Come on, she can have Josh or Liams room. Any of them will be fine on the couch for a while. And she might feel better about Liam being there, she's taking a liking to him too." Elisabeth states looking at her son. He shrugs in answer. Jim sighs.

"It's settled then." Taylor says. "Very good." He says and leaves.

Leah had refused to let go of your hand so you promised to walk with her to the Shannon's.

Liam had offered that she'll be taking his room because Josh would make a fuss and complain. He was okay on the couch.

"Welcome to our home." Elisabeth says holding the door open for Leah and therefore you too, until she let you go.

You walk in with her. Liam behind you and Jim last.

Maddy comes out her room with a smile and you smile to her.

"Come and meet Josh and Maddy." Elisabeth says. "Where's Josh?"

"He's down there." Maddy points and then he comes out too. Then Zoe walks up excitedly.

"Hey everyone, this is Leah Marcos." You introduce her.

"Leah, this is our second son, Josh." Elisabeth introduces.

"Hello. Welcome." He says.

"And this is our eldest daughter, Maddy. She's going to be starting an apprenticeship at the infirmary with me and Yn tomorrow." Elisabeth tells Leah.

"Hi." Maddy waves to the little girl. Leah just looks down and steps closer to you.

"And this is our youngest, Zoe."

Zoe waves to her but she just looks at her.

Liam leans down from the other side of you and look at Leah.

"You know, Zoe's got a plant that eats bug, and in her spare time she makes these toy dinosaurs. Pretty cool, huh?" Liam says and Zoe shows her.

Leah looks at the toys then smiling a little. Liam smiles at her feeling triumphant and he looks up at you. You smile down at him.

His family all glance at each other.

"Bathrooms through there and kitchens over there." Jim then says. "In case you get hungry again."

"Why cant I stay with you?" She asks looking up at you, clutching your hand tighter. You bend down to her level.

"I would love to have you, but I have some really annoying roommates. They snore loudly, but don't tell anyone I told you that. Then they'll throw me out." You joke around a little and she chuckles shaking her head slightly. "And they fart in their sleep." You whisper and she giggles as she makes a disgusted face and you copy her.

Liam and his family look at you in amusement. You stand back up and Maddy speaks up.

"Um, do you wanna see where you're gonna sleep?" Maddy asks.

Leah grab Liams hand, now holding the two of you, and refusing to let go. You look to Liam and he looks at you.

"How about you stay the first night, Yn?" Elisabeth then suggests and you look at her.

"Okay, yeah, I can do that." You smile reassuringly at the little girl.

You go to walk with Maddy to the room, but she refuses to let go of Liam.

"Uh.." Liam says, unsure what you do about the situation.

You chuckle with a shrug to him and point to her.

"I mean, we'll have a barrier I guess." You say and he chuckles with a nod.

He follows you and Leah, and Josh tease him as he passes him.

"I'm sure you would've wished there wasn't a barrier." Josh whispers as Liam walks by.

Liam slaps his head and looks at you if you heard but you were too busy talking with Leah to notice, he sighs in relief.

Getting into the room you find the bed made and ready, you pull the duvet back and gesture for Leah to lay down.

You lay down in Liams bed after her and she immediately snuggles into you. Smiling softly down at her you look at Liam when he lays down too.

He lays on his side looking at you, his hand under his head like you on the other side.

"Good night." You whisper to him and glance down, stroking Leah's hair soothingly until she falls asleep.

You feel a hand brush yours after a long moment, you don't look, you just smile softly and intertwine your fingers with his. Soon, the three of you fall asleep.
