What Remains - Part 3

Malcolm park outside Outpost 3.

"What the hell is that?" Jim asks, flashing his flash light at the dinosaur chewing on cables outside.

"Ovosaurs. Damn it!" Malcolm scare them off with a an automatic dinosaur calling in the rover and they scatter away.

He walks over to where they were.

"I keep telling Taylor we should sink these cables deeper. It's the nickel. It's like catnip to them."

They walk inside.

"Outpost 3, this is Terra Nova. Come in, Commander Taylor." Wash tries to contact through the com. "Do you copy?

"Commander Taylor isn't here right now. Can I take a message?" Jim asks coming up to the screen.

"What the hell are you doing there?" She asks.

"Well, I'm looking for my wife." He says.

"Where is the Commander?"

"I don't know yet, but I'll let you know as soon as I find out. Good talk. Over." He says and hangs up.

Then they see Elisabeth walking in.

"Hi." Jim says smiling to his wife.

She then lifts her gun and Liams eyes widen along with Jim. The gun powers up and she shoots aiming for Jim.

"Mom!" Liam shouts as she fires, but blast was too loud for her to hear him. Jim gets thrown plenty of feet away and she aims at Malcolm and Liam.

"Elisabeth?" Jim asks on the floor.

"Don't move." She says.

"Elisabeth, it's us." Malcolm says taking off his breathing mask.

"Malcolm? Malcolm!" She says relieved and hugs him. He freezes and looks at Jim how frown as them.

Liam and Jim stand a little away while Malcolm talks to Elisabeth.

"Okay, don't worry." He tells her and hold her hand before leaving her side, her barely letting him go.

"What the hell is going on?" Jim asks when Malcolm walks up to them. "Why doesn't she recognise me? Or her son?"

"Okay, uh.. She seems to have lost all memory of the last 20 or so years. As far as Elisabeth's concerned, she's in university. She and I just started dating." He adds and Liam turn to him with wide eyes.

"Oh, terrific." Jim says sarcastically. "So, you're in the, uh, honeymoon period."

Malcolm chuckles awkwardly.

"Malcolm, how did this happen?" Liam ask.

"Some kind of pathogen. I looked at the notes she made before she became symptomatic. Um. The first stage of the disease is intermitted memory loss. The infected become disoriented. They can hold on, but with some effort. And they eventually do become unmoored, which leads to stage two, which is catastrophic memory loss."
