"Let me tell you a story," a woman says. A child's eyes brighten and they jump onto their bed.

"Okay!" They exclaim and snuggle up to their mother.

"Once upon a time, there was a knight." The woman says, "She was known as The Red Shadow, taking out her enemies from the darkness."

"Was she a good or bad knight?" The child asks.

"A very good knight, though some would say otherwise."

"Why?"

"Because, little one," She says, "This knight did as she was told by the queen of the Kingdom of Dionis. She took care of the kingdom's enemies and kept her people happy, following the queens every request. Their protector."

"Was she good at fighting people!?" The child yells and jumps up, "I want to fight people, too! So I can protect mommy and little brother!"

"This knight was amazing at fighting and defending. No one could match her strength in battle. But it was dangerous for her, anyone could attack at anytime. You'll have to be careful, too. Protecting your brother after he becomes king will be hard and dangerous."

"Okay, mommy! I'll be really careful and protect you both!" They exclaim and their mother chuckles before pulling them back down.

"I know, child."

"So what happened to the knight?" The child asks

"One day, after the knight had come back after a long and exhausting battle against a rivalry kingdom, the queen requested the knight to come to her chambers late at night."

"What did the queen want?"

"Patience, my future knight," the woman says, laughing, "Once the knight arrived, she saw her queen lying in her bed, alone. She moves forward and bowed to the queen. The queen just laughed and asked the knight a question. She wanted the knight to become her new lover since the late king had passed. This would benefit the knight greatly, but to the Queen's despise, the knight declined."

"Wouldn't she be the new king? Or would it be queen?" The child asks.

"Queen, darling." The mother answers, "The knight told the queen that she could not accept as her heart had been stolen by another. When the queen asks who, the knight replies with "a woman with the beauty of a night sky filled with stars". This enraged the queen, who isn't used to rejection. She sends the knight away then orders her subjects to find this woman and bring her to their magesty. This search continues for weeks until the shadow knight finds out. The knight runs to the queen and begs her to stop this search.
The queen, still angry, asks her why. The knight tells her that the woman she searches for shall never be found in anyone's lifetime as she's not in this world."

"That's possible!?" The child exclaims and the woman nods

"According to this knight, yes." She says, "she said that this woman appeared in her dreams, showing her a land of fire of and darkness. This confused the knight as she didn't know why someone with such beauty would be in such a place. The woman never gave her answer and the knight slowly stopped believing that the exchange had ever happened in the first place. The queen heard of this and consoled her friend, who came to her depressed and confused. Before, the queen would've been joyful but now, she's accepted that it will always be an unrequited love. Eventually, the queen found her true love. They fell in love and got married soon after."

"What about the knight?" The child asks

"She watched as her best friend found love. The knight supported her queen and protected her kingdom for years. But one night, she dreamed and gained a glimpse of  her love. She was joyful that she wasn't crazy and that the woman that captured her heart did really exist."

"Did they find each other and live happily?"

"Not quite. The knight continued to watch as her friends lived their life in the peaceful kingdom she protected, even having a child after a couple years. On the surface, this knight was kind and brave with the most courage anyone had ever seen, but underneath, she was resentful to the queen. She didn't understand why the queen could have her one true love but she couldn't. This knight has done everything and anything for her kingdom, so why couldn't she find the one she loved most? So, one night, she packed all her things and left the kingdom, leaving nothing but a note addressed to her queen. Nobody has seen or heard from the knight since."

"Why couldn't she have her happy ending like the queen?" They ask

"I don't know, my love," the woman says and steps up from the bed, "It's time for bed, my little child." The child moves under the covers and her mother kisses her softly on the head before moving to the door.

"Goodnight, mommy!"

The woman smiles, "Goodnight." She replies and shuts the door gently. She moves down the hall, wobbling slightly, as she hold her pregnant belly. The queen arrives to her throne room and sitting on her required one. A tall, buff man walks up to her and lays a hand on her shoulder, "Any news?" She asks

The king looks at his wife and shakes his head, "Nothing, my love."

"I see." She pauses, "May I have a moment?"

"Of course," the king says, "I'll head to bed," he kisses her softly and she nods.

The queen sighs, "It's been 6 years. Why can't I find you?"

"Layla."
