Chapter Thirty: This Shit Hurts
Episode Eight: Check One, Check Another
Georgia sat on the kitchen stool, drinking white wine while waiting for Dallas, Ginny, and Zion to return. "And that guy who did his entire piece in iambic pentameter?" Georgia heard Ginny say as they entered the kitchen. "That was wild!" Zion agreed. "Uh-oh." He said, seeing Georgia's face and a wine glass in her hand.
"You guys have a good time?" Georgia asked. "Dad took us to this slam poetry in Boston. Every performance was bananas! Dad gets up on the stage and, at first, I thought I was gonna detonate, but you should've heard him. He did this entire piece on fatherhood." Ginny ranted while Dallas fiddled with her fingers.
Her stomach had been on rotate ever since she had received a text from Marcus stating he'd been caught by Georgia. "Hmm." Georgia said softly in reply to Ginny. "Langston Hughes in a leather jacket. It was really inspiring." Ginny continued. "Sounds it." Georgia spoke. "You know, I had an inspiring night too. Maybe I'll do a slam poetry piece about it!" Georgia spoke. Dallas felt like she was going to puke.
"Let's see. Motherhood. Doing laundry. Unscented Tide for... sensitive skin. Suddenly, a face in the window! Betrayal." Georgia spoke. Dallas noticed her mother's glare and looked down, looking at her nails. "Disillusionment. Worry. Anger. Red hot anger. Rage. Questions. So many questions." Georgia continued. "Why is this strange visitor climbing through the window of my 15-year-old daughter in the middle of the night? How long has this been going on for? Are they having sex? Are they being safe? Doesn't she have a boyfriend? What the hell is going on? Anger! Fury! Motherhood." Georgia finished.
Dallas felt herself get hot, really hot. "Hm. Not half bad." Zion spoke. "What, and I cannot express this enough, the hell is Marcus Baker doing climbing through your window?" Georgia asked making Dallas bite her tongue. "Momma, I swear nothing is going on." Dallas spoke. "I don't care! Don't you have a boyfriend? Is he sneaking into your room too?! Are you having sex?" Georgia asked. "No! No we're not!" Dallas answered. "Oh you are such a liar!" Georgia nagged. "Does Maxine know? Is Hunter aware about Marcus and this little Spider-Man routine?" Georgia asked
"You are literally the worst." Dallas spoke.
"I'm the worst?! You're cheating on your boyfriend!" Georgia exclaimed. "I am not!" Dallas yelled, slamming her hands on the table. "Marcus is my best friend. He listens to me!" She says. "He's helped me through all my deep shit!" Dallas complained. "This shit hurts. Everything I've dealt with, it fucking hurts!" Dallas exclaims.
"And you know, mom, it is all your fault. You and you're fleeing ways!" Dallas said. Ginny looked between the two. "Don't blame this on me. This right now, it's all you." Georgia spoke. "You letting this boy in." Georgia continued. "I am struggling!" Dallas exclaimed. "And you--You can't acknowledge that. Marcus does nothing but comfort me! I don't know how I'd survive here without him!" Dallas yelled. "Oh really?" Georgia asks
"Marcus knows everything about me and he helps me with them! He's the best thing that has ever happened to me and you, you are completely fucking it over!" Dallas ranted. "Really? Does he really know everything about you!?" Georgia questions making Dallas gasp. "You wouldn't!" Dallas exclaims. "I would and I did!" Georgia exclaims. "Does he know about your past? What you've done!?" Georgia asks. "Would he really be with you then!?" Georgia exclaims. Dallas felt tears prick her eyes.
"What happened was all your fault! Everything I've been through, it's been all you!" Dallas exclaims. "Yeah, pin the blame on mom who has done everything to protect your ass!" Georgia yells. "I can't do this right now." Dallas spoke, sitting down. "Oh now you can't do it. No we're gonna talk since you wanted to be a big girl and yell at me." Georgia said. "Ginny, maybe we should--" Zion tried. "No. I wanna see this" Ginny denied.
"tell me about this little relationship you have going on." Georgia spoke. Dallas sucked in a breath, licking her lips and trying to find the right words. "Why should I. You'll try and twist it and make it seem like he only wants to fuck me." Dallas mumbles. "'Cause that's how all men are!" Georgia exclaims. "Stop pushing your trauma and your past on me!" Dallas screams. "I am not you! Even if we've gone through similar traumatic pasts I am not you and I will never ever be you!" Dallas yells.
"That boy is a stoner! He won't take care of you! You have a boyfriend! Heck, should I even let you have a boyfriend after this?" Georgia questions. Dallas glares at her. "You are the worst mom ever!" Dallas says making Georgia sigh. "Da--" Georgia tried. "No! I hate you!" She exclaimed, rushing up to her room. "I forget she's still a child mentally. My God." Georgia complained, rushing up after Dallas.
Georgia stood by Dallas's door, listening to her on the phone. What she heard could only be described as soft sobs and a low voice coming through the phone. When the phone cut off Georgia realized Marcus was coming over. She went into Ginny's room, watching as Marcus ran across the street and to the back of the house.
Dallas crashed into Marcus's arms, crying. "Shh.." he comforted, brushing her hair with his palm. "it's all right, I got you." He spoke, kissing her temple. "I hate it." Dallas spoke. "I hate wanting to die I hate it." Dallas spoke, hugging Marcus tighter.
"I hate the feeling when everything goes wrong. I hate not wanting to be here but wanting to be here at the same time. I hate having happy moments that fade instantly." Dallas vented. "Oh las." He whispered. "And I'm sorry for putting this burden on you. I know your struggling too and I'm selfish. I know." She mumbled. "You're not selfish, las, I agreed to this. I don't mind it." Marcus said.
"You should." She spoke. "I'm a train wreck. Even my mom agrees." She chuckled sadly. "You're not, Dallas. You've just been through some tough shit no one should ever experience." He reassured. "It feels like I am.." She whispered, laying down. Marcus rubbed her arm softly. "Should I tell Maxine about this?" Dallas asked. "I'll tell her. Don't you worry." Marcus said, kissing her cheek before leaving. Dallas let out a heavy sigh before her door opened.
"Real mature of you mom. Listening to my conversation." Dallas spoke. "I'm sorry plum." Georgia spoke. "I thought y'all were hooking up. I wasn't going to stand for that." Georgia told her daughter, sitting on her bed and caressing her cheek.
"You said some really hurtful stuff momma." Dallas whimpered, tears falling out of her eyes. "I'm so sorry." Georgia apologized. "I know what we did was horrible. I am reminded of my crime every night. It wasn't your fault, I'm sorry for saying that." Dallas said. "It isn't yours either." Georgia spoke. "Yeah." She sniffled. "Baby, you can cry with me." Georgia said while Dallas looked at her. "Ugh, come here." Georgia said, holding the wailing girl in her arms.
"I regret it all..so much. This burden. I killed him." Dallas cried. "I'm so sorry baby." Georgia tuts. "Kenny has never went away. He's still here, breathing down my neck and holding me down. It's so crazy." Dallas mumbles. "We'll find a way.. I promise you, plum, I'll remove your every burden. I'll take your scars and wear it, hm?" Georgia says, kissing her eyes. "Uhuh." Dallas nods.
"I just don't want you to hurt so much.. I feel like Wellsbury is really hurting you." Georgia spoke. "I've definitely cried more." Dallas mumbles. "Guess I gotta reteach you how to be strong. Let's start right now, hm?" Georgia asks. "Mommaaa." Dallas groans out. "Come on, plum. Sting first. Don't you remember?" Georgia questions. "All right, All right. Teach me." Dallas says.
