Livian and April stayed at the lake for some more time. When they arrived back in town, the night had already fallen but April didn't want to go back to her room and stay there alone so she decided to take a walk.
"I see I'm not the only one who feels nervous tonight." Catherine stood in front of her smiling.
"Catharine. I'm so glad to see you. You've been so busy these days. I can't remember the last time I saw you alone."
"You're right. I'm exhausted, so many fairies have been asking for my help lately... It's been so tough. They're scared as they can't learn and are struggling to control their powers. Slight incidents have almost become quite usual phenomenal across town. How have you been?"
"I'm worried about Livian."
"Why? Did something happen?"
"I found out the story about Marissa. He told me what happened."
"I'm surprised he decided to tell you that, but I'm also happy he did. It's good for him. Anyway, I was planning to look for you tomorrow. I managed to find some time and examine the sceptre."
"Did you find anything out?"
"The sceptre's broken, one of the pieces is missing and that's why you can't use its full power."
"That's disappointing."
"It was activated during Ember's attack because it felt a connection to your grandma and it felt her offspring was in trouble."
"The sceptre recognised me?"
"Yes, it's absorbed so much of her power through time that it started to react only in the presence of her energy. And since you're her grandaughter and share the same power, it recognised you."
"That's amazing."
"April, we need to find where the missing piece is as soon as possible. I believe it can be our powerful weapon in the battle against Ember. I'll do my best to find it as soon as I can."
"Thank you."
On the same night, Ember went to the lake in the woods. Upset because of her counter with April and the fact that she's Ariana's granddaughter, she decided to check all places where she'd cast her spells and had hidden her magic objects or any other objects of her power.
"This place has changed so much since the last time I was here." She approached the lake and dipped her hand in the water, and she drew it back angrily. "What?! They have managed to clean the poison from the water. I can't believe this."
She took a good look around. "The Elders couldn't have done it. If they knew about the right antidote, they would have cleared it long ago. No, this has to be Ariana's granddaughter."
She then headed for the woods. "I need to see if the thing is still there, if she had figured it out, all of this would be pointless."
Months were passing by here in Valeria before they were aware it had almost been a year since Ember's attack. However, that night, something shook the inhabitants of Valeria.
Since then Tanya was continuing the classes with April to help with her flying. April was getting better each day and at one point was able to balance in the air for exactly some time.
Every day, if they were free from the power searching the books in the library, after classes, April had been going to the small garden and spending time with Livian, they were growing closer to the point where April understood the feelings Livian had for her but was intimidated to bring the subject up just randomly.
The fairies and elves had begun to find it much easier to control their powers thanks to the help of the Elders. Catherine had been finding time to figure out how to fix and find the missing part of the sceptre. Tanya, after classes, had been continuing her work with the seekers and Dairon with his King's Guard duty.
