It was a week later.

We were at school, standing in front of our English class, waiting for the teacher to arrive.

There were some students also waiting.

Ruby and I managed to finish our assignment a couple of days ago.

It was the day we needed to hand in our assignments.

It was 23 seconds later.

The teacher arrived.

He unlocked the door and opened it. Everyone walked in. The teacher was the last one who walked in. Ruby and I sat down at the back.

"I hope you all finished your assignments. If you finish your assignments, please put them on my desk." The teacher said.

I unzipped my bag and grabbed our assignment sheet.

"I'll put our assignment on the desk," I said.

I stood up and walked to the teacher's desk. Most of the students were crowding around the desk to put their assignments on the desk. I stood at the crowd's edge and waited for them to disperse.

It was several seconds later.

Everyone was in their seats.

I put our assignment on the pile on the teacher's desk. I walked back to my desk and sat down next to Ruby.

It was lunch.

Oscar and I were sitting at our bench eating.

I felt someone sit next to me. I looked to my right to see Ruby sitting next to me.

We're sitting so close that our arms are brushing.

"Hey." I greeted Ruby politely.

She nodded her head.

"You're the new kid, right? Hi, I'm Oscar." He said to Ruby.

Ruby didn't say anything. She didn't even look at him. I could see the disappointment in his eyes.

"That's Ruby," I said to Oscar.

"Oh." He replied.

Ruby went on her phone.

I was confused as to why Ruby was sitting next to me. I couldn't ask her because she may not answer.
