I was at school talking with my friend Oscar.
It was before the period.
The bell rang.
I had English.
I started walking towards English.
It was a minute later.
I arrived.
I stood next to the classroom wall and waited for the teacher to arrive.
I saw Ruby walk up to me. She stood next to me but didn't say anything.
It was 10 seconds later.
The teacher arrived.
He unlocked the door and opened it. He walked in, and everyone piled into the room.
Once everyone took a seat, the teacher said,
"OK, class, we'll be doing an oral presentation in groups of 2. It has to be about the book we all read."
Most people groaned.
"And I'll also be choosing who you work with."
Most people groaned. He started listing down names.
"Ruby and Y/N." The teacher said.
Fuck.
I looked at Ruby to see her staring at me with an expressionless face and unblinking eyes.
I couldn't tell what she was thinking or feeling.
She stood up and sat next to me.
"Hey." She said quietly.
"Hey," I replied in a surprised tone.
I'm surprised that Ruby talked to me.
"Wanna come to my house after school today and work on our assignment?" I asked.
"Yes," She replied.
"Have you read the book?" I asked.
"Yeah." She replied.
It was 6 hours later.
We were at my house.
We were working on our assignment in my room.
In the corner of my eye, I could see Ruby staring at me. I looked at her. She didn't look away. She looked at my lips, and I did the same. Ruby slowly leaned in. My phone rang.
Ruby sprung away. I read the name on my phone.
It's my grandma.
"It's my grandma. I'd better answer it." I said.
Wow, I can't believe we almost kissed.
