It had just been one month since Elizabeth Allen had become a temporary lone child, and if she had listened to Leo, she would have been at home, resting and eating an actual meal, not what they were serving at the cafeteria. Yet, she sat in the same seat that she had almost every hour for the past month.

However, like many nights before, Joe joined her tonight, dosing away in the uncomfortable chairs. Elizabeth followed behind him until Iris had crept into the room and startled them both out of their slumber. "Guys, it's been three weeks, and you've barely slept or eaten. You two should go home at some point," Iris whispered tenderly, and she placed a gentle hand on Joe's shoulder.

"I'm going home when Barry does..."

Elizabeth's voice was gruff and sore from lack of use. Her face was hollow and taught with exhaustion. Her hair was in a messy bun, not thoroughly washed in weeks. The silence after her words was thick with sorrow and grief. The only thing to shatter that thickness was the sharp, frightening sound of the EKG machine as Barry began violently seizing on his bed.

"Fuck!" Elizabeth's voice cracked from the sudden loud tone. Joe shot up from his seat and yelled into the corridor as Elizabeth grasped Barry's arms and tried to hold him down, careful of all the IV tubes and wires attached to her brother.

"No, Barry, Please! Don't do this!" Tears filled Elizabeth's eyes, making it hard to see her brother's blank expression. "Please help! My son's coding!" Joe's voice was full of panic before he pulled Elizabeth off of Barry to give the doctor room to work. "How can this even be possible?" Elizabeth cried out as she crumbled in Joe's arms. "He doesn't even have a heart rhythm."

The family of two was huddled in the corner of the hallway as they watched the doctors frantically try to stabilize Barry. Iris had run off as soon as she left the room. The least she could do was stay, Elizabeth thought sourly as she watched her foster sister retreat.

"They won't be able to save him," a voice at the other end of the hall called out. Elizabeth spun around, ready to confront whoever felt brave enough to speak in such a way to her. Imagine her surprise to see Harrison Wells in all his glory.

Well, wheelchair glory.

"But I can." Harrison's expression remained cool as Joe turned to face him. The doctor could practically feel the hostility radiating off the small family, particularly the young girl. "I know who you are. You're that scientist that Barry and Lizzy are obsessed with."

"Not obsessed. He was the one who blew a hole in the city."

Elizabeth could see Dr. Wells' eye latch onto the girl. Her hostility was concerning, but the man had more significant worries than a wrench in his plans. "Interestingly enough, my facility is the very place I would like to take him." Elizabeth scoffed aggressively as she took a few more steps towards the man.

"You are out of your mind, Wells. Why would we trust you? It wouldn't surprise me if it's your fault he is like this in the first place, jackass." Joe grabbed hold of the girl and pulled her into a half embrace to calm her down before she outright attacked the disabled man. "I'm not gonna try and convince you with promises, but Detective West, Ms. Allen, give me a chance," Wells scooted closer to the grieving family and put on his kindest, most reassuring smile.
