Standing on her doorstep was not Mandy, but Sebastian, his familiar figure framed against the soft glow of the hallway lights. As he opened his mouth to greet her with a warm "Hi," Mia's eyes widened in horror as she realized her state of undress.
With a gasp of embarrassment, Mia quickly slammed the door shut, her cheeks burning crimson with mortification. She leaned against the door, her heart pounding in her chest as she tried to compose herself.
"Sebastian!" she called out, her voice muffled through the door. "I'm so sorry, I... I'll be right out!"
Hurriedly, Mia dashed to her bedroom, her face still flushed with embarrassment. She quickly threw on a comfortable T-shirt and jeans, cursing herself for her earlier carelessness.
Moments later, she returned to the door, her heart still racing with embarrassment as she cautiously opened it to face Sebastian once again. With a sheepish smile, she greeted him, hoping he hadn't been too put off by her earlier faux pas.
"Hi, Sebastian," she said, her voice tinged with apology. "Sorry about that... What-uh, what are you doing here?."
Sebastian's expression softened with understanding as Mia opened the door once more. "I'm sorry for showing up unannounced," he began, his tone apologetic. "I hope I didn't catch you at a bad time."
Mia shook her head, a small smile playing on her lips despite her lingering embarrassment. "No, it's okay," she reassured him. "I just... wasn't expecting visitors."
Sebastian nodded, his gaze sincere as he reached into his pocket and pulled out an envelope. "I wanted to apologize and extend an invitation to you," he explained, handing the envelope to her.
Curious, Mia accepted the invitation, her brow furrowing slightly as she examined it. "What's this for?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.
Sebastian smiled, a hint of excitement in his eyes. "It's a dinner event for the opening of the literacy program," he revealed. "We're hosting it at the Saint Liber next Sunday from 7 pm to 10 pm."
Mia's eyes widened in surprise at the invitation, her heart fluttering with unexpected excitement. "I... I don't know what to say," she stammered, feeling a mix of gratitude and disbelief.
Sebastian reached out to gently squeeze her hand, his touch warm and reassuring. "You're needed, Mia," he assured her, his voice earnest. "Your contributions to the program have been invaluable, and I couldn't imagine hosting this event without you."
Mia felt a swell of pride and gratitude wash over her at Sebastian's words. Despite her initial hesitation, she couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging and purpose in his presence. And as she looked into his eyes, she couldn't shake the feeling that perhaps this unexpected invitation was just the beginning of something wonderful.
The air between them grew thick with an awkward silence after Sebastian's heartfelt words. Sensing the tension, Mia cleared her throat, determined to break the uneasy atmosphere.
"So, um, how did you... find me?" she asked tentatively, her voice tinged with curiosity.
Sebastian chuckled softly, a sheepish smile playing on his lips. "I may have done a little detective work," he admitted, his tone lighthearted. "Your resume had your address listed, so I made sure to check it out. Don't worry, I promise I'm not a stalker or anything."
Mia couldn't help but laugh at his candid admission, feeling the tension dissipate with each shared chuckle. "Well, I'm relieved to hear that," she replied, her voice light with amusement. "I'll have to be more careful with what I put on my resume from now on."
Sebastian grinned, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "I promise I won't show up unannounced again," he assured her, his tone playful. "Unless, of course, you want me to."
Mia felt her cheeks flush at his playful remark, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips. Despite the initial awkwardness, she couldn't deny the easy camaraderie that seemed to flow between them.
