As the conversation lulled into another awkward silence, Mia couldn't help but feel a pang of embarrassment at the lingering tension between them. Sensing her discomfort, Sebastian cleared his throat, his voice breaking the silence.

"Well, I should probably get going," he said, his tone a little more subdued than before. "I'll see you at the event next Sunday."

Mia nodded in response, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment as she quickly stepped back to allow him room to leave. "Yeah, see you then," she replied, her voice slightly shaky.

With a final nod of farewell, Sebastian turned to leave, and Mia closed the door behind him with a soft click. Leaning against the door, she let out a sigh, feeling a mix of relief and disappointment at the sudden end to their encounter.

As she tried to shake off her embarrassment, Mia's phone suddenly rang, startling her out of her thoughts.

Mia listened intently as Mandy explained the situation with Harley and Ethan, her heart sinking with each word.

"He was supposed to have Ethan for the weekend," Mandy began, her voice heavy with frustration. "But then something came up at work, and he had to leave town unexpectedly. Ethan got really upset when Harley told him he couldn't stay, and he's been crying and upset ever since."

Mia's brow furrowed with concern as she heard about Ethan's distress. "Poor little guy," she murmured sympathetically. "It must be really hard for him to understand why his dad had to leave."

Mandy let out a frustrated sigh. "I know, right?" she replied, her voice tinged with exhaustion. "I just wish Harley would be more responsible and considerate of Ethan's feelings."

As Mandy poured out her frustrations, Mia's heart went out to her friend and Ethan. Sensing Mandy's exhaustion, Mia offered a solution that she hoped would ease the situation.

"You know, why don't you and Ethan come over for a sleepover tonight?" Mia suggested gently. "That way, I can help out with Ethan, and you can get some much-needed rest."

There was a brief pause on the other end of the line before Mandy's voice came through, filled with gratitude. "Really? Are you sure?" she asked, her tone hopeful.

"Of course," Mia replied reassuringly. "I'll set up the couch for you and Ethan. And we can spend the evening watching movies and having a little sleepover party."

Mandy let out a relieved sigh. "Thank you so much, Mia," she said, her voice filled with gratitude. "I don't know what I would do without you."

Mia smiled, feeling a sense of satisfaction at being able to provide some comfort to her friend and her son. "It's no problem at all," she reassured Mandy. "I'll get everything ready, and you can come over whenever you're ready."

They hung up the phone and Mia went on to prepare the couch.

After ending the call with Mandy, Mia sprang into action, eager to make their impromptu sleepover as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. She quickly dialed the number for their favorite pizza place and placed an order for two pepperoni pizzas and one cheese pizza for Ethan, knowing it would be a hit with him.

With dinner taken care of, Mia rummaged through her closet to find spare blankets and pillows, intending to make the couch as cozy as possible for Mandy and Ethan. As she set up the makeshift bed, she couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement at the thought of spending the evening with her friend and her son.

Once everything was in place, Mia turned her attention to entertainment, pulling out a selection of board games from the closet. She knew Ethan loved playing games, and she hoped it would help distract him from the earlier upset.
