As the clock struck 2:30, signaling the end of the workday, Mia began to gather her belongings, preparing to head home. With a sense of satisfaction at the progress she had made, she tidied up her desk and gathered her coat, ready to start her journey home.
As she glanced over at Sebastian's desk, she noticed that he was deeply engrossed in a phone call, his brow furrowed in concentration as he spoke. Sensing that he was preoccupied, Mia hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to interrupt him or not.
But as the minutes ticked by and Sebastian remained focused on his conversation, Mia made a decision. With a sense of determination, she walked over to his desk, her footsteps soft against the office floor.
"Sebastian," Mia said softly, her voice breaking through the din of his phone call. "I'm heading out for the day. Have a good evening."
Sebastian looked up, momentarily startled by Mia's presence. He didn't say anything though. SO Mia offered him a warm smile before turning to leave, her heart light with satisfaction at the day's accomplishments.
As Mia made her way out of the front office, she exchanged friendly farewells with the attendance staff and the principal, her voice filled with warmth and gratitude for their support throughout the day. With a final wave, she stepped out into the hallway, ready to begin her journey home.
Meanwhile, Sebastian's phone call had finally come to an end, and as he hung up, he realized that Mia was already on her way out. A sense of urgency washed over him as he quickly gathered his things, his mind racing with the realization that he hadn't had a chance to properly say goodbye to her.
Without a second thought, Sebastian dashed out of his office, his footsteps echoing down the hallway as he hurried after Mia. He rounded the corner just in time to catch sight of her disappearing through the front doors of the school.
"Mia, wait!" Sebastian called out, his voice echoing through the empty hallway.
her AirPods securely nestled in her ears, she was deep in conversation with Mandy. Lost in their exchange, she didn't hear Sebastian calling out to her, his voice lost amidst the chatter of the hallway.
Sebastian's heart raced as he watched Mia continue on her way, oblivious to his attempts to catch her attention. With a determined stride, he closed the distance between them, his hand reaching out to gently grasp her wrist and turn her around to face him.
Startled by the sudden touch, Mia's eyes widened in surprise as she found herself face to face with Sebastian. She quickly removed one of her AirPods, her brow furrowed in confusion as she looked up at him.
"Sebastian, what's wrong?" Mia asked, her voice tinged with concern.
Sebastian took a moment to catch his breath, his chest rising and falling with the exertion of his sprint. "I just wanted to say goodbye properly," he explained, his voice gentle yet urgent. "I didn't want you to leave without knowing how much I appreciate all your hard work today."
Mia's confusion melted away as she registered Sebastian's words, a warm smile spreading across her face. "Thank you, Sebastian," she replied, her voice soft with gratitude. "That means a lot to me."
"And...that starting tomorrow you will be observing the students in the morning and after lunch you will be in the office with me reviewing their data collection," he added. She nods in compliance.
There was an awkward silence between them as she felt that he wanted to say more but he interrupted the silence, "Bye then."
Mia turned to continue on her way, her heart feeling lighter knowing that Sebastian had taken the time to express his appreciation.
