Since their argument, Ahaan and Ishqi had stopped speaking with each other. Ishqi was hurted much by his words, she was tired of his mixed signals, she wanted some mental peace so she avoided talking to him directly. All communication between them was done through their son, Vihaan, who had unintentionally become their messenger. This went on for a week, yet despite the silence, neither missed any opportunity to show care when needed.
One afternoon, Ahaan was sitting in his office, lost in thought, when Kartik, his younger brother, walked in.
Ahaan, startled, asked, "What are you doing here?"
Kartik, with a grin, replied, "I have to start work after college, so I’m here. But more importantly, who are you daydreaming about? Your wife?"
Ahaan, irritated, snapped back, "Stop talking nonsense. Why would I be thinking about her?"
Kartik smirked. "I just mentioned it casually, but now you have made it clear that Bhabhi is on your mind... That’s progress, Bhai."
Ahaan defensively said, "Why do you keep calling her ‘Bhabhi’? She’s just Vihaan’s mother, nothing more."
Kartik responded ,"But you’re married to her, right?"
"That marriage doesn’t count," Ahaan muttered, clearly uncomfortable.
Kartik raised an eyebrow. "Oh really? Then what was it when all your clients came over? You kept calling her as 'my wife'."
Ahaan stammered, "That... that was different."
"Was it really? Just admit it Bhai - you have got feelings for Ishqi bhabhi, and you were jealous of that Rohan Singhania." Kartik stated in a firm voice.
Ahaan, now visibly annoyed, retorted, "You have no idea what you are talking about. There’s no room in my life for anyone except Vidhi."
Kartik chuckled and replied, "Is that what your heart says, or is it your mind controlling your heart from falling in love again?"
"Enough with your nonsense, Kartik," Ahaan said, trying to dismiss the conversation.
But Kartik wasn’t ready to let it go. "I am serious, Bhai. Please listen your heart. Vidhi Bhabhi is watching over you, and she would want you to be happy. Why are you denying your happiness? Just think about it." With that, Kartik left Ahaan alone to his thoughts.
Ahaan sat back, thinking over Kartik’s words. He started recalling all the moments he’d shared with Ishqi, from their playful banter to their recent argument. He tried to shake the thoughts away, even going to the washroom to splash cold water on his face, but Ishqi’s smile kept creeping into his mind.
As the days passed, Ahaan found it harder to suppress the growing feelings he had for Ishqi. Every time he tried to focus on work or distract himself with other tasks, her presence loomed in his mind.He would catch himself staring at her when she wasn’t looking. Ahaan couldn't deny the way his heart raced whenever Ishqi was near, even during their cold silences. He was sure that there was something more to their relationship.
But then there was the shadow of Vidhi, constantly hanging over him. He had loved Vidhi, deeply and unconditionally, and the thought of loving someone else felt like a betrayal to her memory. Guilt gnawed at him, making him feel as though he was somehow erasing the past by accepting his feelings for Ishqi.
The confusion left him torn, unable to fully embrace the growing affection he had for Ishqi. A part of him longed to reach out to her, to make things right between them, but another part feared opening himself up again- feared the vulnerability that came with admitting his feelings.
