His eyes filled with fresh tears as he continued, his tone growing more desperate. "How could you even consider something like this without telling me? Without thinking about us?"
Ishqi, her heart heavy with guilt, tried to explain herself, her voice barely audible. "That day... when those aunties said all those things about me... you didn’t say anything, Ahaan. You didn’t even talk to me about it. I thought... maybe... maybe you believed them, that I wouldn’t be able to love Vihaan as much if we had our own child. I didn’t want to risk that. I thought if I just..." She trailed off, her words dissolving into quiet sobs.
Ahaan shook his head, cutting her off before she could say more. "I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to upset you. I thought you understood that what they said didn’t matter to me. I know you better than anyone, Ishqi. You are the best mother Vihaan could ever have, and nothing could change that. How could you ever doubt yourself like this?"
Ishqi, tears streaming down her face, choked out, "I’m so sorry, Ahaan. I didn’t mean to hurt you, I just-"
But Ahaan, still overwhelmed by everything, interrupted her once more, this time his voice firmer. "No, Ishqi. This time, I am really angry with you. You didn’t even stop to think about the consequences."
Ishqi looked down, her voice trembling as she pleaded, "Please... I didn’t know what else to do. I thought I was making the right decision."
Ahaan let out a deep sigh, running his hands through his hair, clearly frustrated. "Let’s go home. We need to be with Vihaan. Kartik and Saumya have probably already picked him up from school."
They left the hospital in silence, with a rising tension between them. During the drive towards their home, Ahaan remained quiet, not uttering a single word. Ishqi kept stealing glances at him, hoping for some sign that he was no longer angry, but Ahaan’s expression remained stern. Her heart ached, knowing she had deeply hurt him.
When they finally reached their apartment, Saumya opened the door. The moment she saw Ishqi, her face filled with concern."Di, what were you thinking?" Saumya exclaimed, rushing toward her. "Do you have any idea what could have happened if jiju hadn’t reached the hospital in time? "
Ishqi sighed, "Now you also scold me."
Ahaan, his frustration still evident, chimed in, "Well, you did something worth scolding."
Ishqi nodded, her eyes downcast. "I know, Ahaan. I know I was about to make a huge mistake... I just got so scared. Please, forgive me."
Before anyone could say more, Vihaan came bursting into the room, shouting, "Mumma! Mumma!"
Ishqi’s face lit up as she knelt down, opening her arms wide for him. Vihaan rushed into her embrace, and she hugged him tightly, holding him close as if he was her lifeline.
"Mumma, where did you go?" Vihaan asked innocently, his small hands gripping her tightly.
Ishqi forced a smile, hiding the pain in her heart. "I had to go out for some important work, sweetheart," she replied softly.
Ahaan, standing nearby, leaned in and whispered quietly so only Ishqi could hear, "More important than your life…"
Vihaan continued excitedly, "Chachu was teasing me so much while you were gone!" He giggled, his carefree laughter filling the room.
Kartik, who had just entered, grinned and said, "Oh really? I was teasing you? You were the one who was enjoying the time with me! Wait, you little monster..."
Kartik then started going near Vihaan, who ran away, with Kartik chasing him around the room.
"Vihaan, be careful!" Ishqi called out, a smile tugging at her lips despite the weight of the situation. She too went behind them.
