As another hour passed, there was no improvement in Ishqi's condition. Inside the ICU, a nurse monitored her closely. Slowly, Ishqi began to regain consciousness. Her lips trembled as she murmured faintly, "Vihaan... Vihaan..." The nurse noticed her stirring and leaned in closer. Finally, Ishqi opened her eyes, disoriented, scanning the room until her gaze fell on the nurse.
"I... my child... Vi...Vihaan," she stammered weakly, her voice barely audible.
The nurse, misunderstanding her, spoke apologetically. "Ma’am, please rest. I’m sorry, but we couldn’t save your baby," she said, assuming Ishqi was asking about her unborn child.
Ishqi’s eyes widened in shock. "No! No, that can’t be true!" she exclaimed, her voice rising with panic. "Vihaan! Vihaan!" she screamed desperately, sitting up despite her frailty.
Hearing her cries, Ahaan and Vihaan rushed into the room. Ishqi continued to shout Vihaan’s name until her eyes fell on her son, standing at the door. Relief washed over her as she tried to get up, but the nurse and Ahaan urged her to lie back down.
Vihaan ran to her side, his small arms reaching out. Ishqi pulled him close, showering his face with kisses, her tears soaking his skin.
She looked at the nurse, her voice trembling with a mix of relief and frustration. "Why did you lie? My son is perfectly fine!"
Ahaan intervened softly, placing a calming hand on her shoulder. "Ishqi, please relax. The nurse wasn’t talking about Vihaan... she was referring to our unborn child."
Ishqi froze at Ahaan's words, her gaze shifting between him and the nurse, trying to process the reality. Her trembling hands instinctively moved to her stomach, and the truth hit her like a wave.
"Our baby..." she whispered, her voice breaking. A fresh stream of tears fell, but she quickly hugged Vihaan tighter, composing herself. She held Vihaan’s face tenderly and said, "I don’t need another child when I have my Vihaan with me."
Ahaan’s heart ached as he watched Ishqi struggle with the weight of the loss, but he understood her need to focus on the present, on what they still had. He reached out, gently cupping her cheek, guiding her tear-filled eyes to meet his.
"Ishqi,"he said softly, his voice full of tenderness, "You don't have to bear anything alone. It’s okay to grieve, it’s okay to feel what you’re feeling."
She nodded, taking in his words but keeping her focus on Vihaan, who had nestled against her chest. Vihaan, sensing his mother’s sadness, whispered, "Mumma, are you okay?", his small hands reaching to wipe her tears.
"I wasn’t before," Ishqi admitted softly, "but now that I’ve seen you, I’m fine."
Ahaan's heart swelled with emotion as he watched the tender exchange between mother and son.
Gradually, the other Malhotra family members entered the room one by one, expressing their relief and joy at seeing Ishqi awake. After spending some time with her, they left, taking Vihaan along to let Ishqi rest. Soon, the room was quiet, leaving only Ahaan and Ishqi together.
Breaking the silence, Ishqi asked, "Ahaan, where is Vidhi?"
Before Ahaan could respond, a familiar voice came from behind. "I’m right here, Ishqi."
Vidhi walked to her bedside with a gentle smile. "How are you feeling now?" she asked, her voice filled with warmth.
"I’m okay," Ishqi replied.
Before either could continue, Vidhi took charge of the conversation. "Listen, before you two start talking, let me speak first. Otherwise, you’ll both keep avoiding the truth and arguing endlessly," she said, crossing her arms.
