EVELYN
How embarrassing, he just wanted to wipe my mouth for me. He must think I'm weird.
"So, your best friend is Alicia, and at school, you're closest with Didi?" he asked. A regular conversation. "Yes, Alicia is my best friend. And I hang out with a lot of people at school. Since Didi and I have the same major, we worked under the same professor. So we eat together occasionally."
"What about you? Are you best friends with Hugo, the headquarter manager of Blue Moon shopping?" I asked trying to make the conversation reach further.
His head shot up again as he bit on his food. "Well...I'm not sure if he thinks of me in the same way or not."
Right, even his mother mentioned that he hardly opens up about his feelings. He probably has many close friends, but it seems like he hardly opens up to them as well. He's someone who hardly opens up, not even to his friends. Someone who suppresses his feelings. An intimidating yet poor man. I wish he'd become more open.
I studied his face as he continued chewing on his food. Everything he did looked so...clean.
"I hope that one day we can have a meal together at home, too."
His lips would curl up slightly at the corners, revealing his perfect white teeth and the dimple on his right cheek. His dark eyes sparkled with joy, mirroring the love that filled my own. And as he smiled at me from across the room, my heart fluttered and my cheeks blushed with a rosy hue.
His smile was contagious, it could light up the darkest of rooms and make anyone feel at ease.
"Sure."
CARDEN
She stepped out the car, me quickly following behind her. "Thanks for dropping me off. And for breakfast, too." she smiled. I gave her a small nod, thinking it would be enough.
"When are you coming home today?" she asked. "I'll be late." I said shoving my hand inside my suit pocket.
Still, if I complete all my schedule today I may be able to take a break tomorrow. Then I'll be able to eat at home with you. Just as you suggested.
"Evelyn!" both our heads shot towards the gate. A tall blonde haired man waving at us. At her. "Evelyn Delancy!" It's. Evelyn. Valiente.
I turned my gaze back on her when she turned away. She returned his wave, with a big smile plastered on her face "Hey didi!" DIDI? Did she call him Didi?! He's a guy?! Last time I checked the list of the office members they were all females! I can't believe this Didi she kept talk about is...a man.
She took a few steps towards him, now that he was much closer. Both of them focused on each other. I stood in the middle of them, just a few steps backwards. My hands had now crossed each other without me acknoledging it.
A feeling of unease washed over me. I didn't like the way they looked at each other, so carefree and comfortable in each other's company. My grip tightened on my sleeve, both out of frustration and a desperate attempt to calm my racing heart. I don't like this.
My eyes finally connected with his. I could see the surprise in Didi's eyes as he whispered "Oh."
He stuck his hands forward, a gesture as he spoke "Hello, I'm Diego. I work with Evelyn in the same office." She calls him Didi? And me just Carden? I met my hand with his, in a firm yet quick shake "I'm Carden Valiente." I'll have to talk to the employee who drew up the list.
"Evelyn told me nothing about you. She doesn't really talk about her family, much." I felt a surge of annoyance bubble up within me. His words pieced right through me. My face which now held a very see through irritated portret.
