"It's okay. I'm just glad you're fine." she sighed. "Weren't you upset?" her head shot up in surprise "What?".

"Because I ruined your first kiss like that?" The words slipped out of my mouth before I could stop them. Evelyn's expression turned serious, and she fell silent, her eyes avoiding mine.

I could feel my heart racing as I waited for her response. I knew she was thinking about the past, and so was I. Evelyn's cheeks suddenly burst red, and she yelled out, "What?!" Her sudden outburst caught me by surprise, and I could feel everyone in the park looking at us.

I nervously cleared my throat, trying to calm her down. "What do you mean ruin?" she stuttered. "I don't remember what you did! I thought it was perfectly fine!" she muttered out turning away from me and walking away. "I'm seriously fine." she mumbled. "You're still upset over what I said to you back then." she halts. "Well-, that's because I just have an exceptional memory!" she sputtered out. "Then, why did you act like that, if you were truly fine?" I said approaching her. "You were shaking when I came closer to you. You couldn't even look me in the eye." I confronted her as she looked up at me in utter and complete shock.

EVELYN

So he knew...I always though there was a wall between us. Even though I assumed it would disintegrate in time, it never did. Just as I feared him and didn't look at him in the eye. I thought he also felt the same way but he was watching me the whole time. And now he's asking me.

"Are you scared of me?" Maybe what we needed wasn't time, but an opportunity to ask each other questions, instead. "I told you before, just looking at your eyes and expression was enough to make me scared."

"Then what would you like me to do? Should I close my eyes when I talk to you?" he said shutting his eyes. Why is he being so tender today? "Why are you speaking so gently all of a sudden? You're scaring me."

"You shouldn't fear me when I'm talking this nicely to you." he sighed, still having his eyes shut. "Why are you scolding me? That's so intimidating."

"Do you still fear me?" he asks opening one of his eyes. "Well, not as much as before, but.."

"Good. We'll fix things one at a time." both of his eyes now open. "Fix what?" I ask. Carden suddenly stopped and stepped closer to me. My heart fluttered as I felt his strong frame near mine. He brushed a stray strand of hair out of my face and tucked it behind my ear. I could feel the heat radiating from his hand as it lingered on my cheek.

My heart was beating so fast, I thought it might burst. His touch was making me feel things I had never felt before. "You.." he whispered. "And me.." he finished.

He then moved his hand down to my upper arms and held them gently. I could see the intensity in his eyes as he looked at me. I was frozen, unsure of what to do or say. But I didn't want him to let go. "So that you won't be afraid of me anymore. So that you can believe me when I say that I won't ever hurt you. That way, you can trust and rely on me."

"How come." I managed to mumble out. "If you want to change, you're free to change however you want. Why do you want to change me, too?" I asked. His hands fell down "Because there are many things  I want to do with you."

CARDEN

And because I want to protect you. "Evelyn..." As I stood there, staring at Evelyn, my heart was racing a million miles per hour. Suddenly, an overwhelming feeling of love overcame me, and without hesitation, I stepped closer to her and wrapped my arms around her. She looked up at me, surprised, but then her eyes softened.

My heart was beating so loud, I was sure she could hear it. Every inch of my body was on fire as I held her close to me. "Let's try to become a real married couple."
