EVELYN

"What?" did I mishear him? "Nothing, go to bed." he said letting go off my hand. "Okay..hope you have a good night, too."

I made my way to our room and closed the door behind me. Leaning against it, I let out a sigh and tried to calm my racing heart. I couldn't believe how nervous I was feeling. What's up with that guy? Did he just ask me if we can sleep together?

CARDEN

I hope Evelyn didn't catch what I said. I wasn't wise. I couldn't hold myself back. I almost took her to my bed without even asking her if she was willing. I rubbed my face across my mouth. Get it together Carden Valiente! You said you were going to take things slow, one at a time. I shouldn't rush things. We have plenty of time.

As I left the kitchen with a coffee mug in my hand, I was passing through Evelyn's door when it flung open nearly causing me to stumble backwards. "Oh, did you sleep?" Is it because of what happened last night? I feel so awkwards. "Oh, y-yeah. You have a shopping date with my mom today, right?" I asked, her already at the front door, putting her heels on. "Are you going to be alright? Should I come with you?" I ask. "Oh, I'll be just fine! Thanks! I should get going, first!" she said as she flew out the door. "I'll see you at home later!" she said and the door slammed closed.

Did she just try to avoid me?

EVELYN

I rushed out of the house, my heart pounding in my chest. My cheeks were still flushed. I took a deep breath in, trying to calm my racing thoughts. What if he thinks I tried to avoid him?

I lifted myself up from the door. No it's okay. I'm sure I acted perfectly natural!

As I entered my car, I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, feeling the warmth of the sun on my face. I was in such a rush that I didn't even check how I looked. Hope I look okay. Just as the driver started the engine, my phone pinged, indicating a new message. I picked it up and saw that it was from Carden.

'Feel free to tell me if you don't feel comfortable seeing my mom. I'll talk to her so that she won't misunderstand.' why is he so worried? How can he explain properly when he's so snappy?!

Lost in my thoughts, I didn't even notice the car starting to move.

"You're beautiful."

"You look happy today, Mrs. Valiente," the driver commented, glancing at me through the rearview mirror.

I couldn't help but chuckle at his observation. "Oh, I'm sorry. It's nothing." I replied, feeling the familiar butterflies in my stomach.

Actually something really exciting happened. Carden gave me a music box as a gift yesterday. I wonder how he knew about that song. He got my mom's favourite song and set it into a music box. For the first time in two years marriage doesn't seem so bad after all.

Suddenly my phone vibrated in my lap, grasping me away from my thoughts. The words 'mother-in-law' were written in bold. "Hello, mrs. Valiente. I'm on my way." I said picking up the phone.

"Sweetie, are you on your way to the boutique? Oh, dear. What should I do? Your father-in-law's distant relative suddenly passed away, so we have to attend the funeral."

"Oh, I see. That's fine, mrs. Valiente. Do you want me to come with you?" I asked. "No, no. That's fine. If you don't mind shopping on your own, why don't you go ahead to the boutique without me? They should have a lot of nice dresses, since I made an appointment there."

"Okay, I'll do that."

"Sorry. I won't be able to make it, honey." she said her voice sounding remorseful.

"Oh, No. That's completely fine." she cut off the phone with her sweet goodbyes, right when my phone vibrated again.

'Heard mom ditched you. Do you want me to go there with you?'
