I laid on top of my sheets, facing the ceiling.
I wish I never had to see that woman in my life anymore. But I didn't expect to run into her like that again.
Right. It was strange that I didn't bump into her all this time while she works for the company. I suppose we'll run into each other again in the future.
A sudden knock at the door distracted me from my thoughts.
There, Carden was standing. Wearing a white button up, the last button hanging lose, and his sleeves rolled up while his right hand was lifted up at the door.
"I heard there was trouble at the dress shop." I rose up from my bed now sitting on the corner "How did you know?" he approached the bed, sitting next to me "I stopped by for a while. The manager told me."
Without any thought to it my head dropped low, all the memories replaying.
"Were you startled?" my head immediately shot up "No, it's fine."
"There you go again."
CARDEN
She was eyeing the floor. Her mouth downturned and her eyes like they lost all colour. Why do you never tell me exactly how you feel? You'll also feel a little better if you lean on me. Whatever it is I'll be willing to fight for instead.
"You must have been quite flustered. Bad people will get properly punished in the end." I said clenching my fist. Her head peeked up, and suddenly her eyes lit up and a chuckle escaped her lips, "What's with that?" she said as she burst out laughing.
You read what you sow.
Good shall triumph over evil.
Just like what they say in fairytales.
Six-year-old Evelyn Delancy wanted a happy ending like those fairytales.
And the Evelyn now wishes for this person's happy ending as well as her own.
"Oh my bad." she said wiping the tears she had formed while laughing miserably. "I couldn't help laughing because you acted so unlike yourself."
Her laugh very quickly fell silent at the sound of a grumble.
EVELYN
My face redened as I held in my breath. Why does my stomache always growl in front of Carden?!
"Should we grab something to eat outside? Is there anything you want?" he asked, a soft smile playing on his lips. "...birria tacos." I mumbled ignoring his gaze.
"Okay, let's go." he said getting up from his seat and walking towards the door glancing over at me. "Huh? Are you serious?" I ask.
"Of course." he chuckled. "Let's go."
CARDEN
As we trudge through the snow toward the restaurant, a cold silence hangs between us. I steal a glance at her empty hand, longing to reach out and intertwine our fingers, but the distance feels insurmountable. How many days passed since I thought of wanting to hold her hand just innocently. I bet there's no one as innocent as me when it comes to married men. I think to myself as I adjust my grey coat to my shoulders.
I seize a moment of boldness and reach for her hand, catching her off guard. "Your hand's freezing." I say looking straight forward, ignoring the heat on my cheeks. "I'm just warming your hand because it's cold."
"W-why are you like this all of a sudden?" she said clearly taken aback. Her cheeks flush crimson, the cold air no match for the warmth radiating from her flustered. Wide-eyed, she stares at me, her mouth slightly agape, surprised by the sudden intimacy. I gently squeezed her hand and held it up for her to see "Why is it so hard to hold your hand once?"
