It was 3 am, and the alarm on his bedside table was blaring out. "God damn it," He muttered at the top of his voice, his voice cracking.

"Are you fucking kidding me?" Dolly spoke groggily from the side of him, lifting her head as the alarm blared out.

"Shhh." He told her, "That damn alarm is so loud." He grumbled, rubbing his eyes as he sat up in bed.

"It's your phone," She scoffed as she turned over, nuzzling into her pillow, quite irritable that she'd been woken up.

He glanced at his phone, his eyes squinting as he looked at the bright screen in the pitch-black bedroom. It seemed his phone had been ringing for the past 20 minutes.

"For God's sake." He groaned, finally answering the ringing phone. "What the hell is so goddamn important?"

The person calling was his father-in-law, Dolly's father, "Can you tell my daughter the next time she puts her phone on silent I'll come and bang on the door, and I know you're with her."

"Are you shitting me?" Tim spoke with a confused, sleep-filled tone.

Dolly snatched the phone out of his hand and put it to her ear, "It is 3 a.m., what do you want,"

"Your phone has been on silent for the past 20 minutes, I was worried something had happened." Her father replied.

"I was asleep, like a normal person," She sighed, rubbing her eyes before sitting up on the side of the bed.

It was clear he was trying to stay angry with her but was failing completely. "Just please turn the damn phone up, or at least check it before you go to bed."

"Why what's up?" She asked as her voice croaked, still thick with sleep.

"What if I needed you?" He snapped, trying to play it off like he was still angry.

"What if I throttled you?" Dolly responded to her father.

That threat seemed to do the trick, he was silenced for a moment, surprised by the tone in her voice. "Is this how you talk to your father?"

"Why are you calling me at three in the morning?" She asked bluntly.

"I was just checking up on you, make sure you're okay." He replied, not giving her attitude the respect it deserved.

"You know me, I worry a lot." He shrugged, trying to be apologetic whilst pretending he was still mad at her.

"Good night dad, love you."

A few seconds of silence followed her response before her father sighed. "Okay, fine. Good night sweetheart," he muttered quietly, before hanging up.

"I don't get that man," Dolly utters to herself before lying back down in bed.

After a few seconds, Tim leans down to her, wrapping his arm around her body as he pulls her close to him. He was still exhausted, but he couldn't resist cuddling her.

"Love you." He muttered into her neck, his voice a mix of affection and annoyance, as he buried himself deeply into her body, needing her warmth.

His response was a light snore, Dolly already falling straight back to sleep.

"Well, I don't know Angela, I let him stay here while he was on bed rest and I think he's taken it as his cue to move back in," She told her friend as they sat in the kitchen, watching the man secretly in the living room.

Tim was watching TV, a little smirk on his face as he listened to the two women's conversation, their voices echoing from the kitchen. There was nothing better than being able to eavesdrop, and he couldn't resist listening to his wife talk about him to her friend, even from another room.
