As soon as Hazel got home, the first thing that happened was her brother running up to her.

"Sis, you're home!"

Hazel laughed as her little brother jumped up onto her, and wrapped his arms around her while grinning widely. She hugged him back.

"Hi Jason! Did you have fun at school today?"

"Oh, yeah! It was the best! As soon as I walked in, everybody was just saying hi to me! I had no idea why, but I was so happy, and I started to wave and say hi to everyone!"

Hazel smiled. She knew why. Jason had ADHD, so he was super hyper whenever he didn't take his pills. He must have forgotten to take them as soon as he got home from school. Even without his pills, though, her little brother was still always cheerful and bright most of the time. People liked him for that; he was just so hard to resist.

Hazel started to take her shoes and jacket off as Jason kept on talking.

"...and then I was like 'WOAH! That's awesome, Emily!' And then we went to lunch and-"

"Alright, that's enough Jason. Give your sister a break, she just got home. And go take your pill."

Hazel's mom, Emma, walked into the living room from the kitchen, smiling.

"Ok!"

Jason hugged Hazel one last time before heading to his room to play with legos.

Emma smiled as she watched her son run away.

"So..."

She focused her attention on Hazel, now.

"I saw the email... have you read it yet?"

Hazel placed her shoes into her family's shoe cabinet.

"No, but I will as soon as I get to my room."

"Good, it seemed a bit urgent. By the way, dad's coming home late tonight."

Hazel's face fell, and she turned around to look at her mom.

"Again?"

Hazel's mom sympathetically stroked Hazel's face.

"I'm sorry sweetie, but it's only for an hour. He'll be home for dinner."

Hazel gave a little smile.

"Alright, then..."

Emma kissed Hazel's forehead and walked back into the kitchen. Hazel placed her jacket into a closet and walked up to her room. She opened her room's door.

Hazel's room was small, yet comfortable. Her greyish-gold desk was in the left corner, close to a window. Her yellow closet was the other corner, next to the other window. Her red bookcase was filled with souvenirs, books, magazines, manga, jewelry, lip balms and other random things Hazel liked. Hazel's white bed had a mint-green background with pink flowers designed on the bedspread, pillows and blanket. Her windows were draped with thin, light blue, short curtains that were hung to the side. Sunshine flooded into the room and onto the pretty lavender colored walls. Pictures of Hazel's family, friends and her artwork were hung up around her room.

Hazel set her backpack down, sat on her bed and opened up her email on her phone. She pulled up the principal's email that was sent to each and everyone at school, including their families.

"Alright, then. Let's read..."

Hello students and families.

This email is about the announcement at school today. Even if you were here, I still urge you to read this email. It has some important information that I wasn't allowed to say because of the poor timing.
