After I got Lilly some grub, we chilled for a bit

After I got Lilly some grub, we chilled for a bit. She rambled on about school, trying to keep her mind off the drama with mom and Greg. It kinda worked, I guess. But when I said it was time to dip back home, she wasn't havin' it. She clung to me, beggin' not to go.

So, I figured, screw it. I let her roll with me to Future's crib. The bus dropped us off in his hood, the sky painted with shades of orange and pink as the sun went down. The sky was beautiful but the torn up houses, cracked pavement and roads weren't. It wasn't new to me though.

Walking down the block with Lilly in my arms, my brain was buzzing with thoughts. Mom, rap battles, Trish... Plus, how the hell was I gonna find a new place to crash? I even toyed with the idea of having Lilly bunk with me if I could save up enough scratch. But I knew deep down mom wouldn't go for it. Least I could do was have her kick it with me on weekends or somethin'.

When we hit Future's spot, he and Sol were posted up on the steps, shootin' the shit like always. Seeing them there gave me a sense of relief, even if just for a sec.

"Sup, man," Sol and Future greeted me with nods as I stepped onto the scene, Lilly tucked in my arms.

Lilly flashed a shy wave.

"Hey, lil' lady," Sol softened his voice for her.

"Future, cool if Lilly hangs here for a bit? Just 'til I take her back home?" I shot Future a look, catching Lilly's frown at the mention of heading back.

"No doubt, man. She's always welcome here. Ain't that right, lil' one?" Future's grin was genuine as he tickled Lilly's belly, setting off a fit of giggles.

I gave Future a nod of appreciation, slapping him some dap. "Thanks, dawg."

"Oh, and by the way, Cheddar's bouncin' back home tomorrow, aight? Doc Carter says he's on the mend, no complications." Sol dropped the update, reminding me of Cheddar's whole deal with Doc Carter. Despite the headache it all caused, hearing Cheddar was on the up and up eased some of the tension from the situation.

"It's a relief, man. Lucky he ain't blow his dick off," Future chuckled to Sol, but quickly cut it off, remembering Lilly was in earshot. "My bad," he apologized, shooting a glance at Lilly.

"Jimmy, it's freezin'," Lilly complained, shivering in my arms.

"Alright, we'll head in," I agreed.

Future chimed in, "If Lilly wants to crash, she can bunk in my bed. Me and Sol gotta dip soon to scoop Iz."

I thanked him for the offer.

We wouldn't be sticking around too long, but it was a solid offer. Future always looked out for Lilly, ready to hook her up with whatever she needed if she was around. Probably 'cause he's got a sis of his own, he's got that soft spot.
