"Alrighty, here is one plain cheese burger and a super salad for the pirate." Colt placed our plates in front of us as I made a face at the nickname.

Dad smiled softly.
"Thank you, Colt, how has business been lately?" He asked dipping a fry in his ketchup.
Colt sighed grabbing a chair before sitting in it backwards to face us.
"Well it might be a little more booming if Em wasn't in and out of her heat lately, but her personality tends to scare off the guests." He shrugged.

Dad looked at him.
"Is it true that you don't want another kid?" He questioned.
Colt rubbed the side of his neck frowning.
"It's not that I don't want another one, Mox, it's just.." He looked over his shoulder frowning before looking back at my dad.

"Em had a miscarriage a few months ago-- and I really don't know if I want to put her through that again, I mean it devastated her." He frowned.
Dad's brows knitted.
"I had no idea she did Colt, I'm so sorry, how did Dixie take it?" He asked.
Colt frowned softly.
"She was bummed out, but not like Em, I haven't seen her like that in quite some time and when your mate falls that deep into depression? It makes you want to be careful." He said.

"You are still touching her though, right?" Dad frowned.
Colt looked away.
"Colton!"
Colt looked back to my dad frowning.
"It's complicated, Mox, look, you and Magna are blessed you know that right? You have eight healthy children, not everyone gets that life that your family has." Colt sighed softly.

"I want Emmy to be happy again, I want Dix to have a sibling, but right now? It's just not in the cards for us, and maybe that's a good thing, especially with demons being a thing now." He frowned deeply.

I blinked looking to my dad.
"Demons?" I repeated.
Dad frowned at Colt.
"Jinx, why don't you go order you a cheesecake? I know those are your favorite." He said.
I wasn't stupid, this was grownup talk and I wasn't meant to hear about it.

Sighing, I grabbed his wallet and made my way to the register.

Colt's eyes followed my son before looking back to me.
"I thought your family knew, I mean after the incident with Leif." He commented.
I frowned at the other.
"No, we were keeping that information to ourselves, we didn't want to scare our kids into thinking demons were lurking around our towns." I replied.
Colt stood to his feet.

"I know you're doing what's best for them Mox, but it might keep them safe if you trust them more with the truth." He told me.
My brows furrowed.
"I do trust my kids, Colt, but that's something that they don't need to know, at least for now." I frowned.

Colt looked over his shoulder.
"Let's change the subject then, what's the deal with the eye patch on that one anyway?" He asked.
I blinked before sighing.
"Jinx had what I'm calling an episode yesterday, apparently his emotions have been off for almost five years-"

"Whoa what? Doesn't he know how dangerous that is?" Colt frowned at me.
I frowned back.
"He was twelve, Colton, he had massive trauma before Magna found him, he freaked out yesterday and it made his switch get stuck so now his left eye is jet black." I frowned softly.

Colt looked at me.
"Why does it seem like you have more to say on that, my friend?" He gently pushed as I looked at him.
"It just scares me a little, I've seen vampires with black eyes, but his were pitch black.. I don't know Colt, maybe I'm looking too into it, but it almost reminded me of-"

"A demons?" He asked.
I looked at him and it was like my silence was enough for an answer.
Colt sighed softly looking in Jinx's direction.

"Just keep a check on him, it's not like we can exactly contact a demon ourselves, but if he starts acting different. You know we'll have to do something." He told me.
