Chapter 14.

The next day, I woke at 6 am and went to visit Luke. Before I went, I stopped at a café to buy us coffees and muffins. Zach was there when I walked in. "Hi", I said blankly.

"Hey... How's Luke?".

"Are you sure you care?".

"How can you even say that! He was my best friend you know".

"Yeah well maybe you hated him enough to shoot him? You're ex bestie did kiss your girlfriend".

"Are you serious?! You think I shot him?!".

"Gee, that thought never even crossed my mind".

"Dont you get it Lauryn? Im in love with someone thats too busy drooling over my best friend. And Id do anything to be with you Lauryn, I would but... Id never hurt him".

"Im going to the hospital. If you really care about him like you say then maybe you'll take a minute away from your selfish life to visit him. Im probably just wishful thinking

though", I snapped. I turned on my heel and went to my car where I sat sobbing. What have I done?

I sat with Luke in his room the rest of the day. "I saw Zach today...", I scoffed.

"Oh?".

"Yep".

"What did he say?".

"Well I kind of accused him of shooting you so...".

"Lauryn! You what?! He didnt do this!".

"I know, I can see that now. I know that it wasnt him and Im going to see him later to appologize. Just as long as I dont see Brooke on the way, it should be fine".

"Brooke? Nah this wasnt Brooke. You're insane Lauryn".

"Seriously?! Then who the hell was it because if it wasnt either of them... Then who?! Dont tell me... One of the girls you hooked up with's older brother has a gun?".

"Relax, Lauryn. Let the police do their job! What is up with you?!", he yelled, drawing the attention of his doctor who burst into the room. "You should go. You're distressing the patient". I scowled at Luke and pushed past her to get out. What the hell?! This was clearly Brooke.

When I got to Zach's house, he'd been looking out of the window. He saw me and raced out of the house. We wrapped our arms round eachother and none of us spoke for a while. "Im so so sorry, Zach", I sobbed. He shook his head and stroked my hair comfortingly. He pulled back a little and smiled. I looked into his eyes and got lost in my own thoughts. I barely noticed it at first but Zach had leaned closer to me... And I was moving closer to him. Our lips were centimetres apart now. He gently held the back of my head and leaned closer until our lips met. For a while the world just stopped. Everything around us fell silent and it was just us, in the moment. When we broke apart, he was the first to speak.

"Lauryn, I need to be with you. I... I love you".

"I love you too Zach. And I need you too. I just... I dont know I guess I just... You know what? No. I want to be with you".

Zach smiled and pulled me into his arms again.

The next morning, I went to see Luke before school, but he refused to see me yet and I left. Abby had driven me over to the hospital and offered to take me to school as well. Id already told her about Zach and I but she seemed happy for me, which I found odd. "Are you sure this is what you want? You and Zach back together after all this? If youre happy Im happy but I just dont want you to go into this if your heart isnt 100% with him. Are you completely over that kiss with Luke?", she asked. And the truth is? I dont know how I was supposed to answer that.
